We have one across the street. Every room in the house is full to the roof of paper and trash. Car in the driveway the same, and car in the garage stuffed to the point where you cannot even get in the garage. Its "to the roof" in every room of the house...
She is certifiable but they will not do anything to her as she is taking care of her 40 year old daughter who is also wacko... |
America as a country is a bunch of hoarders. No other people in the world has as much crap as us.

When I was a kid there was a girl in my class, her father hoarded bicycles. Their yard was full of garbage-picked bikes. Rooms in the house filled with bike parts. Hundreds of bikes.
He would help the neighborhood kids fix their bikes. He called it the 'bike shop'. His daughter hated it. The city got after him saying the bikes were a hazard and provided nesting for rates, etc. |
I'm getting better. Had 22 motorcycles once. Was down to 14 recently, but bought 2 more last week on a little road trip to Alberta & Idaho....
I also hoard firewood. Have enough logs in a pile for the next 3 years, but hauled 10 pickup loads in the last 2 months just because it was available close by. |

Most of it is good stuff that I couldn't get rid of too... All the sign-making specific stuff with the exception of antuques would go... Theres about a 10th of it... He buys lots of tools.... LOTS of tools... All of the junk out back could go too.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1257701681.jpg There would be more stuff on the ground but Mom has put a stop to it... |

Dude thats only 10acres... With a serious elevation change... Probably more than 60feet from the road back to the fence....

my mother used to tell me stories about the collyer brothers, infamous hoarders.
the lesson that i took away from those stories was to never stack things any higher than your head. The Collyer brothers, a study in compulsive hoarding | Unclutterer Google Image Result for http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rNMOlewSvvM/SqeuOFHKvPI/AAAAAAAADRs/u8ZQKob7L0c/s400/collyer1.jpg |
I know a few hoarders and it's especially bad if you have to clean up their house after they die.

Oh I did that.... I rolled mine several times too :D

I can't say I know anyone who is a hoarder, but every once in a while I see a car in the Harvard Square area of Cambridge that obviously belongs to a hoarder... it's a fairly regular looking station wagon, piled absolutely to the top with "stuff"... newspapers, mcdonalds bags, books, pens and pencils, knickknacks, etc. The driver's area has a wall of stuff sitting in the passenger seat, and the dash is pretty much covered as well. This person cannot possibly see their passenger side mirror, and I suspect if they brake too hard or take a turn with too much gusto they become crushed under a falling pile.

The British show, "How Clean is Your House" often causes me to cringe and change the channel.
Synopsis: Two ladies are asked to clean a person's house. The preliminary walk-throughs can be staggering, not that hoarders can't also be clean. BBC America - How Clean Is Your House Sherwood |
We were responsible for an estate of an elderly woman.
We took 16 loads of debris to the dump with my trailer. Tons of junk. KT |
Ya... It will be tons with my dad too... Call a scrap man to come clean up the stuff out back... Get all the good stuff out of the buildings and call the auctioneer...
And he is only in his 40s. I can't imagine how bad it will be in 30 or 40 yrs.... |
In in this economy wish I had hoarded more cash !
|
Folks down the street can't park cars in their 3 car garage - stacked floor to ceiling with boxes of 'stuff'. I am OC about getting rid of stuff. I throw things away only to buy them again inside a month because of a sudden unexpected need. My close friend has something like 50 coffee cans full of odd screws and bits. He can't bear to throw anything away. I make lots of trips to the hardware store...

porsche4life made me realize that my stepdad may have an issue too. i never knew, because my poor mom is holding the flood back. unhindered, the man would be buried. he hoards some cool stuff like shotguns..and rolexes. but he has more duck decoys than any one man should. his closets are full to the top with clothing, and shoes. my poor mom. i just saw a closet for the first time on a recent trip. more camo clothing than anything. when he passes, all the area's homeless with have goretex duck hunting jackets. my bro and i will just drive about and hand them out. a city full of camo'd homeless will be a badass photo op. hahahaha.

My mom and her sister are. Their houses (especially the basements) have little paths through the junk. We keep telling them to clean up but it is pointless. They won't throw it out because they say it could be collectible and worth something. However, they will never actually try and find out what it is worth. They live in fear of throwing something out or selling it at a rummage sale and then later finding out it was worth a lot of money. So their solution is never get rid of anything. I feel bad for my dad because he remodeled his basement and now can't even get into it. He says he feels bad for me because if he dies first I'll be the one having to clean out both my mom's and aunt's houses.

If "Hoarder"
and "can't seem to sell anything" are the same, then yes I'm a hoarder. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1257789302.jpg |
