Sold my truck to an amazing guy...

I sold my F-250 over the weekend to some people who were in Vegas for the SEMA show last week. The company is called Local Motors based in Boston and they apparently build custom new cars to order for people + they are just rolling-out their first(?) production car, a street legal desert racer/rally car called the "Rally Fighter". It's powered by a BMW 335d clean diesel engine and looks pretty cool, IMO.

Last night, I got to meet the CEO of the company. His name is Jay Rogers and he flew into L.A. to give some talks at UCLA business school and at the auto design school @ Art Center in Pasadena. We met up last night in Westwood to finalize the transaction. He's a young, (30s?), high-energy but very nice guy just bursting w/ smarts. He reminded me a little of Wayne, our founder here.

I asked him where he went to school. Princeton undergrad and Harvard MBA+ 9 years in the Marine Corps. (Active+reserve). I thanked him for his service and he said, "Oh thanks but it was a blast. I loved being in the Marines and so did my family." (Wife and 2 small children). Then he reminded me that today is the Marine Corps birthday. What a guy...

Here is his company, click on "Rally Fighter" for some pictures and short video of the guy:

Oh yeah, they are going to use the F-250 to pull the Rally Fighter in an enclosed trailer. It's in the OC now at their fabricator and going to Ensenada later in the week, then cross-country with stops in Phoenix, Texas and some other places.

What's really amazing is he got someone to give them $2mm.

Ah, the good old days (aka, pre-November 2008).

Yeah, those are the "Open Source", creative commons car guys.
