Down Home AOG
 

AOG - aircraft industry acronym for "aircraft on ground", i.e. not flying. An airplane can be found in this state for any number of reasons; routine maintanance, crash damage, and on and on. As many of you know, I design tooling and equipment used to modify or repair aircraft that are AOG. Big commercial aircraft, from a major American OEM (hint hint...).

Now, after all these years and all I've seen (some pretty darn hoopty-ass repairs for ferry flights and such), I have to concede that I will never measure up to this. Take one Super Cub out on the Alaskan tundra, add a lingering fish smell from a previous fishing trip, and top it off with a hungry bear intent on finding the fish.

When he is all done, fly in some new wheels and tires, several rolls of cellophane, and a whole lot of duct tape. I'll let the photos tell the rest:

Ingenuity and determination. You'll want to put those photographs on your computer for that day in the future when a commercial airliner is in a similar situation. The photographs can help you explain to your staff how you plan to get the airliner back in the air.

As a suggestion, I'd spring for the thicker, higher quality duct tape. Just in case.
