Girlfriend has cervical cancer. what can the docs here tell me ?
Known her 14years
She found out a few months ago. Since may 20 I have been driving 700 miles round trip twice a week to take care of things for her. stage 1 right now and tomorrow has her third round of chemotherapy . she fainted for the first time in her life while shopping one month ago in the grocery store and was rushed to hospital. The chemo started one week after that . She says she is a little nervous but doesn't want to talk about it much just trying to get through it . She has started to drink a fair bit of wine at night which I know is to help her sleep but not sure if thats a good idea or not . She runs her own business and even though she doesn't feel great still goes in and oversees the day to day operation. last week she went in just two days after therapy. I have research it but know people here have got a lot of answers from our fellow birds with medical degrees. As you can imagine it is a helpless feeling but wondering if there is anything I should be watching for or be more adamant about her doing or not doing. |

Lonewolf,
Very sorry to hear this. I cannot give you any help on the medical part of it, but just want to give YOU moral support for the fight ahead. I really hope it works out for the better. My high school sweatheart has been in contact with me while I was overseas and it was all good. The sad news is that about three months ago she had a stroke. She is recovering, but it really is stunning. She is just 53. She is married to a great guy. Good luck, your story just hits a little close to home. Take care of her. R/ DanB

If you let me know the exact stage (TNM staging) I can give you some info. Also, what were the results of surgical staging? The pathology report would be really helpful.
True stage 1 cervical cancer has at least a 90% 5 year survival rate. PM me if that's easier.

I have been going through the same thing, but without driving, more being shut out, and it hurts & is very hard... This is the one who got away, then a 2nd chance... One reason that I'm trying to get rid of ALL my extra stuff astince she doesn't want to come back to FL.. The only person I have ever been willing to give up my hobby & leave my home state for..

Where are you? Where is she?
I have some fairly good contacts in the medical community in Vancouver. PM me if you think I can be of any help.

I am really sorry to hear this. Like Moses mentioned, it would require a bit more information to be able to help you - strictly medically speaking.

There is an AWESOME guy on Rennlist named Bigs. He is a really sharp OB/GYN and is ALWAYS open to questions. I would contact him and ask him anything that is on your mind.
He has always been very helpful and his answers are always informative.

Thanks guys.
I have spoken with moses and have to ask her more questions. She did show me a bunch of test results but I got too fu..ked up and didn't really focus on what I was reading. I know some of it was blood work from what I did see. She hasn't told me much because she knows me and can see what it's doing to me and has kept it very confidential. she says she doesn't want any sympathy or people to act or treat her different because they know. Byron. I know how you feel. I immediately put my home up for sale and told her she can move in with me when mine sells and I can buy where she is . Last edited by lonewolf; 11-11-2009 at 01:03 PM.. |

I want to thank everyone who has emailed me and sent pms with their well wishes and own personal stories.
It means a great deal to me that someone would take the time in todays busy world, but that is the kind of people who are on this board and I am lucky to be considered a friend to many . Thanks everyone for caring. Wish her luck. I'll close by quoting what her doctor told me ."This is life.It shouldn't be but it is " |

I would suggest keeping a written journal to keep track of who is telling you what from the doctor side. Write down questions and your visits will be more focused. People that are more involved in their treatment tend to do better. Personally I think it gives you a little less of the overwhelmed and utterly helpless sensation.
Careful with the booze. She is most likely depressed already, can get into trouble even if it is vino rather than hard liqour. She is liable to be pretty schitty to you sporadically going through this, try and remember that it ain't her doing the talking.
