Porsche becomming even more stupid
After going after several shops that have used the name of Carrera... this one tops them all
Porsche starts legal spat with Crocs over Caymans brand - Nov. 10, 2009 So what is wrong with CROCs shoe company using Cayman? Meaning: An alligator-like reptile of Central America and South America having a more heavily armored belly Makes sense to me!!! WTF does this have to do with Porsche? This doesn't even resemble infringment as it is in a completely different sector. The next thingyou know Porsche will be telling the Cayman Islands to change their name ![]()

McCormick should have sued Porsche a long time ago (would have actually been doing Porsche a favor).

Porsche should sue the emergency services agencies of every municipality in the USA for using "9-1-1."
They should also sue the World Trade Center.

Reminds me of when Puma shoes challenged a little private college near me because their logo apparently mimicked the Puma logo...despite the cats jumping in different directions

Every large corporation does this. Harley does it, my own company does it. Protect the brand. Think Kleenex & Jacuzzi. Not every tissue is a Klennex nor is every whirlpool tub a Jacuzzi.
I hate big brother and corporate crap but in this case I agree they have the right to protect the brand.

Believe me Porsche will lose. It's crass corporate intimidation and I'm glad to hear those guys are fighting back.
It is not only overly broad and unenforcable they're acting like those pukes at Monster Cable (who I will never buy a product from) or even, dare I say it, Jesse Jackson: "how much will your company contribute to the Rainbow Coalition?"). |

McDonald's crushes McCurry | Metro.co.uk
McDonald's crushes McCurry Friday, September 8, 2006 McDonald's Fast food giant McDonald's has won a huge and noble victory against a tiny Malaysian curry house, after a five year legal battle. A judge ruled yesterday that the open-air restaurant called McCurry had to drop the letters 'Mc' from its name, as they were in breach of McDonald's trademark. The Kuala Lumpur restaurant claimed that it stood for 'Malaysian Chicken Curry'. The judge, Siti Mariah Ahmad, reportedly found that: 'The defendant's use of the word McCurry and employing signage featuring colours distinctive of the plaintiff's was indulging in acts that could rise to confusion and deception'. The restaurant serves traditional Indian and Malaysian food. It doesn't serve hamburgers. The judge said that McDonalds had an exclusive right to the prefix 'Mc'. The restaurant is to appeal the decision, pointing out that the prefix 'Mc' is widely used, for example in the names of Scottish people.

Monster Cables routinely sues anyone and everyone that has the word Monster in a product name.
They don't always win but it does not stop them.

Totally altruistic on Porsche's part.
This is just their way of thanking Peugeot 'lo those many years ago. Think about it: Nine Eleven. The words just roll off the tongue. Sounds exotic and wonderful. This car has made it's own history many times over, in large part because of the name. Nine Oh One. The words fall flat, Something you would name an appliance, or a heating pad. The Whirlpool Nine Oh One. This car would have been (was!) doomed to become a footnote in automotive history. Thank You Corporate Porsche!!! Keep up the diligent work!

This list is unreasonable at best and almost ensures monoplistic use of a work. If every corporation did this, we would run out of names in the engish language very quickly and would not be able to call anything, whelp, anything. I am surprised Porsche hasn't sent us a bill for every time we type Cayman here on Pelican.
