Call me a lush, but I really like it with some scotch mixed in.

The real stuff - with raw eggs and fermented overnight is just awesome.

Agreed. And as much as I may risk man-card revocation.... the Martha Stewart recipe you can find on-line is damn good and high octane.

make it yourself & it'll be lots better than anything in a carton

dip the eggs in boiling water for a few seconds for safety

nynor 11-12-2009 01:09 PM

i make my own.

four cups of milk
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon of allspice
2 raw eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon of vanilla

blend the above well

whip 1/2 pint of heavy whipping cream

fold the whipped cream into the egg nog

add rum or whatever floats your boat

enjoy.

RWebb 11-12-2009 01:32 PM

RUM! you can add other volatiles if you want but it HAS to have RUM in it.

that is why we have the famous seasonal song:

Rum they told me
Pa Rum pa Rum RUM....

Try home made egg-nog ice cream....

mmmm...

I love egg nog... the traditional stuff and even the pre-made supermarket stuff is awfully tasty, but my favorite is my dad's "special egg nog" recipe:

-Add a couple of ice cubes to a glass
-Cover ice cubes with Bourbon
-Consume!

Same here, some rum with it, shaken then some nutmeg on top!

no thanks. too rich for me.

i have had some french toast made with some, and almost fainted from the wonderful flavors going off in my mouth.

Rick Lee 11-12-2009 04:02 PM

Too afraid to DIY it. I fear raw eggs like nothing else.

I switched to Silk Nog a few years ago, dairy stopped agreeing with me, not quite as thick but the flavor is the same.
