7 Days on a Movie Tech Scout
Starting next Tuesday, I'll be on a seven day tech scout through the Southern half of Utah with about 25 other people. We'll be going to places only accessible by boat, individual 4WD ATV's, and real (military grade) Hummers. Sun up to sundown every single day. No personal time other than the maybe eight hours of sleep I'll get a night if I'm lucky. Seven days and five hotels. You show up at the appointed time in the lobby in the morning and they own your butt until the Director decides to go back to the hotel, which could be 5PM or midnight. Part of my job that I don't really like. But overall, I love my job.

that actually sounds like a blast!
|
That's kinda what I was thinking Tom. Take lots of pictures Hugh!
|
Sounds cool.

25 self - entitled dept. heads. 7 days.
No thanks. |
Download some games on your new iPhone Hugh. 15 hours of walking around and they still won't be able to come to a decision, been there done that. Who's the director, if you're at liberty to say?

Hey Hugh, at least you have a job. Its real slim here in AZ right now! |
What kind of scenery are you looking for? Kanab and Coral Pink Sands Park are awesome.
|
Southern half of Utah is great... Canyonlands, Arches, Capitol Reef, Zion, Bryce Canyon, etc. Take along a copy of Abbey's Desert Solitaire to put you in the right mood!

Be sure to go wheeelin' in Moab, a guy by the name of Dan Mick can show you around.

The movie is called "John Carter of Mars" it's an Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan) story that is about 80 years old. The Director is Andrew Stanton.
Don't get me wrong going to the outback of Utah is great. Being tied to the same 25 people on their schedule which I am absolutely tied to; not so great. Yeah, IPod, IPhone, a good book or three. Lots and lots of driving (sometimes 4-5 hours at a time). |
A movie could be made about making this movie.
Send some pics from the iPod - those stuck in the office next week will appreciate them. |
if you are in Green river sunday the 21st or 28th you guys better not take my motel reservations.
annual turkey day pilgramage to the folks in NM |
Green River, Utah? The home of the Watermellon Festival??
Stayed at the 2nd dirtiest hotel of my life there when I couldn't drive another mile on the way to lake Powell. Ben |
Overnighted in Green River a couple of years ago. Very interesting town but nice and friendly people. Was flying down the Green River gorge in an antique airplane and had a good time there.

Load up on the sunscreen, wear a hat., drink lots of fluids. You can really get fried when you are on the water.
That sounds like an adventure vacation to me. Thinkaboutit, dude; there are people who pay good money to do that sort of stuff. You have the Mouse covering it all for you. |
