That is a tough one. It sounds like he needs an inverter based unit - very clean power, and since they don't need to run at a constant RPM they can be very quiet and fuel efficient.
I know a guy who carries a Honda 2kW inverter in his camper. It is a little briefcase size unit, and it runs like a champ - very quiet and runs forever. He runs the cord out and hides the inverter behind bushes or a tree to reduce the noise even further. He also has a halogen flood light that mounts to the inverter which is very handy. Some of the Hondas can be run in parallel for more power. I don't know if there are built-in inverters available for RVs. I have another friend with a Kohler generator in his RV. It runs nice and quiet, but it isn't big enough to start up his AC unit.

Onan is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to generators. We run our 5kw gas for hours at a time with no issues.
I'm hard pressed to understand who would need to run one longer than a few hours a day. Why? 50 of straight generator time is a loooong time. Even when we're completely dry camping on hot days we rarely run more than 4-5 hours a day...

We once went close to a week running ours straight... Only shut it off every few days to change the oil.... It was the dead of winter in a bad ice storm. No going without.... |

He has very untypical demands for this unit. You must change the oil at least every 100 hours, thats very standard. He will also need to fill his tank every few days weather he drives or not. He maybe making this more complicated than it needs to be. Run it 18 hours to keep the dog cool? in Death Valley mid August ? You will need more room to house a machine with that type of duty cycle. Diesel is the only option which would be his preference. A truck customizer would be good source of info, he needs a reefer unit.

Thanks guys...sounds like Roger may have found an answer...
"We may have the problem generator solved? Will know more this morning when I hear a Kubota powered 3 KW unit run at a local vendor, that has the engine we were looking for the Kubota EA 360 which is a 6. HP unit at 3000 rpm, and listed at a 5 HP unit at 2200 RPM. The slower the better as I’ve been advised the 3600 rpm units don’t hold up nearly as well. That’s probably due to use on the construction sites where they run all day..."
