Where can I get a connector thingy for this?

E46 manual transmissions have a reverse switch that looks like this:

So it has 2 metal blade things inside of a hole. I want to get the part that I'd stick into it. Is this some kind of standard thing, and that's why there isn't a BMW part number for it?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a BMW part number for the connector. They usually do a pretty good job of supplying conectors for their wiring harnesses. Have you looked through the BMW microfiche?

Sounds like a wiring harness to me.

I've gone through all of the parts on RealOem.com, the equivalent of a microfiche.

That certainly looks like I would expect... just hard to know if its the right size.

So, did you look through 61 15 and it's not there?

It should be available. I've purchased connectors before, but always from the dreaded dealer. Often times the parts catalogs simply have a list of standard connectors, you have to find the right one. Sometimes it's a leap of faith because there's no list of applications for the actual connector.

RealOEM.com * BMW E46 325i Plug terminal ELO not waterproof

It could be one of these, but I'd have no idea which one.

does it look like the connector on a Bosch injector? AMP Junior Timer.

Check McMaster-Carr online...

Check at some local garage, I know when I have to install a used engine I keep the old harness just for the connectors.

NAPA has them.

or print picture, side cutters, junkyard.

OK- I do believe that I got the right part from the dealer parts counter. I'm now out $2. :p

Part 2 - for wiring that will find itself exposed to the elements, what should I use? Do I use regluar wiring and wrap it in good electrical tape? Is there a pre-insulated wire that I can use? I will need to run 2 wires about 3 feet. I only want to do this once. Any suggestions?

rammstein 11-23-2009 01:32 PM

Nevermind- I think what I need is 2-conductor trailer wire.
