new motherboard problem blue screen

my lenova [ibm] i7 computer took a surge from lightning
it killed the mother board

so I bought a used azus board with i3 and two vidio cards

set up the system in a new bigger case with the i3 and one vidio card
it worked fine

so I put the i7 chip in
other then a small message [this is not a lenova system]
click ok and the message goes away
and system runs normally

BUT every now and then I get a freeze to blue screen

problem report is

Are the video cards built into the board? If so, either make sure you have the right drivers, or disable the onboard and use external cards.

Is the board rated for an i7 chip?

If a power surge took out the logic board then the processor is also suspect.

YMMV.

no on board video chip just a 550 card in slot on the new M/B
no video out on m/b

the old m/b had on board=i7 on chip video

how do I disable it ?

yes it is a i7 rated m/b 1155 slot
geek bench reports i7 working at rated level

system works ok except for once or twice a day blue screens
reboots and works ok

error reports do not mention i7 issues

If it were me, I would try and switch back to the i3 chip and see if it still bsod's. If it is stable for a few days, you know the i7 probably got toasted.

Boards thee days that accept several different chips should automagically adjust but you never know.

Might need a BIOS tweak.

i7 is a nice expensive chip and I'd personally hate to lose one but the power surge killing the MB would make me suspect of every component in the old box.

Did you bring the memory over from the old board? If so, run a memory test.
