Bugatti driving in the lake - Video!
So much for the low flying pelican excuse. (There's some foul language here so be advised if at work)

I'm guessing that will save the insurance company some serious $$ and possibly put the Bugatti owner in jeopardy of going to the slammer for a while.
Cute. |

This definitely discredits the "pelican" excuse.
However, it doesn't prove fraud. Being a moron is still largely covered by your insurance. It would take more than this to prove fraud. Accidents (even those caused by your own idiocy) are covered. Intentional destruction is not.

The biggest clues will lie in his insurance policy.
My guess is he has an "agreed value" policy, with a value that is much higher than the true market value of the car. If that's the case, he's going to have some issues. If he has a regular policy, that just pays replacement value, then intentionally destroying the car doesn't make much sense. |

Oh, it was that kind of pelican. I thought when he said a low flying Pelican he was refering to a black 959.

If you are rich enough you can self insure. I'm sure the guy won't lose sleep over whether the gecko and caveman will like him.
He probably made up the pelican story so he wouldn't seem so dumb as to drive into a marsh with a $1mil car. |

The guy owns an exotic car rebuilding business.
Pure advertising. He will fix it himself.

If anyone cares, the car was quickly brought to a Houston shop, and has already been cleaned up. From the pictures the interior and exterior are intact and show no damage. I don't know the condition of the drivetrain, but I doubt that getting dunked would do too much to it (assuming it didn't inject any water).
