Pelican Marketing Group. They have a gift for you!

The name of the LA County Sheriffs' Department sting squad.

They sent notices to people with warrants to come in and pick up their awards.

You know the rest. Their Pelican even looks like ours.

No, not what you think. It was on the Channel 2 news in LaLaLand tonight.

John,

They keep finding more and more victims of this thief, so filed this time with MORE charges. Bail was set at $500,000 this time. It just keeps getting worse and worse the more that LE digs.

Cannot talk about it here, or the thread is pulled. PM Dogface or myself for the info. He used to advertise here so has screwed a lot of Pelicans. If you have bought used parts from someone with that name (or Jay, another name he uses) here and he lives in California, there is a good chance that its him.

My God! I actually agree with McLoving! A new day has dawned.

To tell the truth, when this finally ends there will be a lot of people asking why he was protected here on the forum. We still do not have an accurate count of those who he stole parts, engines and so on from, nor the numbers of those who purchased stolen parts from him. It keeps getting larger and larger the deeper we dig.

This is part of the reason for the new charges is that we believe that the LE found new "victims" after Jimmy started turning over parts to their previous owners. Problem is that he mixed up the serial numbers and gave out the parts to the wrong owners. These serial numbers lead to new victims and made the LE realize just how big of a chop shop they were dealing with.

Anyone who bought parts from this person or who is missing an engine, tranny or whole car, pls get ahold of one of us so we can put you in touch with the DA or LE on this case.

I always felt sorry for his victims who posted here. Their stories sounded legitimate to me, and I understood their frustration and why they turned to the Porsche community for support.

Only to be shut down, treated like they were the bad guy, have their own credibility questioned, or met with the goofy "Well I did biz with X a year ago and he was fine" posts (which are totally meaningless posts, to the guy who got ripped off).

I always found it a double standard, because certain people used this board to build up their business and give themselves publicity - and credibility. Those posts were always welcomed. Yet, the board really could not be used to later expose what was really going on.

Hopefully those who were ripped off can get a good part of their parts or money back.

Joe, I didn't hear the original story.
I thought it was about the technique police used a few years ago where they sent out "lottery winner" notices to a bunch of warrentees and rounded up hundreds in one afternoon. It was all over the news.
Good for them, whatever works.
Didn't think it would work twice though.

The Jimmy character on Pelican and chop shops is news to me, I must have been elsewhere.
Happy endings are always good.

John,
The reason it's news to you now is that we were forbidden...and still are...from talking about it by the forum owner. Frankly I'm surprised this thread has not be closed and deleted by now.

Adversity does not build character it reveals it...

What can I say that someone else hasn't found a way to say more succinctly and better... that's why I plagiarize whenever possible.

There are quite a few people on this site that were quick to recommend Jimmy and a few even commented on the engines and transmissions they had purchased from him.

I find it discouraging that posts about the items purchased conveniently disappeared in recent months. You guys know who you are... and so do I (and undoubtedly people you consider friends on this site and very possibly the CHP). You did nothing wrong at the time... just trusted a criminal that was believable to a lot of people. But deleting posts where you openly declare purchasing items that are, in hindsight, possibly stolen from someone who was victimized shows a certain lack of character don't you think?

A vote... if you purchased something from Jimmy in the last year or two and, knowing now that it was very possibly stolen from someone else who is trying to figure out how they can recover from the loss, would you come forward and admit to having purchased items and request that they are cleared by CHP or would you delete any mention you ever made and hope that no one will remember your post about the great deal you got... distilled, do you do the right thing whether someone is watching or not or is the fact that someone is watching what drives your decision.

I work in a world where there are extremes of character and life altering desision making processes. I'm blessed enough to be exposed to quite a few people that I feel pretty confidently would do the right thing, even if it hurt them in the short run. They've helped me to maintain an appreciation that integrity isn't cheap but it is priceless, and one of the few things you get to keep when the material ones become worthless.
