Why is it that the cars with the best lines are most expensive?
Every time I see a car I like - Caymanoman, Jaguar, Aston Martin, , Ferrari, Maserati, even the Ford GT - they have the nicest lines yet are so freaking expensive?
Why can't a car company make a car with great lines and affordable? I don't need it to go 0-60 in 4 secs, heck these days I never go above 65mph. I don't think (or want to believe) that nice lines are more difficult to design or manufacture. I just want to have a car with a great look. (But I still love my Honda Pilot and my Volvo V70t and the Targa - just saying.) I mean, take a look at these! Hyundai is doing pretty well in that department.

I always wondered that. It seems like it would cost the same to build a good looking car as a cheap car.
One thing, though, is practicality. It's harder to build a truly good looking car that is practical, i.e., can seat 5, has carrying capacity, etc. Look at all the cars in your pics, none of them have that. The ones with the best lines tend to be expensive "toys" where style comes first, practicality second. Another thing is if the car is inexpensive, you tend to see them everywhere, so it naturally becomes less "exotic" looking, just by being so common. This may be an example of that: http://steer.ru/archives/29050608.jpg But still, you'd think there'd be at least a few really good looking inexpensive cars. |

Hyundai:confused: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/pukeface.gif Given the price of beautiful cars today, you have to admit that Porsche is a real value. Plus it is the whole package, not just irresistible beauty. (Okay, I am biased, but this is a Porsche focused site!!!) |
I'm not really feelin' the Hyundai

Well, Hyundai is better than Kia! So there..
But back to the examples at top. The 430, the Cayman and the GT-40 are wholly impractical for day to day driving. And frankly, the Masarati is not all that... Nice wheels, nice paint and etc, but not the prettiest lines. To put it in PPOT terms - think of some of the hottest and craziest women you have ever known. For a daily driver - they would be a bad idea. |
I like these lines... but now we're back into that whole cost thing... ($85K ish)

The 350Z is a beautiful car, the 370 is good looking to. They just don't have the mystique appeal that the one's you've posted.
The last gen Celica was very good looking, but I didn't really accept the car as it wasn't really overly practical or fast. The M42 posted, and MRS are both good looking cars, the MRS is probably passed over due o lack of power. |
what about this? personally, i don't love the look of the car, but it's kind of exotic, and priced around 50 Gs.
