Get a fence, or just let the dog out. My wife's family has a house in Truckee, and I have yet to see a dog on a leash up there.

His dogs are to close to the ground, he could loose them in the snow..:D

You need to be a demented grandma living in a 5 story walk-up (rent controlled by the way), to even consider such a thing. Cats and kitty litter is equally gross..

I'm with you. At least with cats if you move the litter box they'll move with it. Dogs, they'll keep pissing in the corner. And the litter clumps the piss which is a hell of a lot easier to deal with than a pan full of piss.

Seriously though... What you're asking:

"Does anyone here want to keep a tray of rancid dog pee in a corner of their house with some astroturf thrown over it?"


It's gotta reek and leek dude. When you don't change it for a day or two because its cold out, what's it gonna be like. Yuck!

It will "work"...and it will train the dog its OK to go in that spot whether the pad is there or not. Then you will have to re-train dog not to go there (done by placing food bowl where the pad once was).

Once they're beyond puppy stage dogs can learn to "hold it" until you take them out.

My female Mastiff loved the cold weather, especially romping in the snow. She got in the habit of waking me upa at 3 in the morning to go outside. I just assumed she had a harder time holding it as she was getting older.

We went away for the weekend and my sister who lived around the corner was also not around so I asked my neighbor to let the dog out a few times a day.

We get back and the neighbor is outside, asked him how it went. He says the dog hid upstairs the entire time and would not come down so she never went out.

I thought Oh God what kind of mess am I gonna have on my hands.

Go inside expecting a stench, nothing. Dog comes tearing down the stairs and I let her into the yard where she pisses for what seemed like 10 minutes straight.

Go around the house looking for messes. Absolutely nothing. She held it all from Friday eve till Sunday noon.

So next time she tried to wake me in the middle of the night I just told her to go f herself.

Go to a pet store... they have doggy potty pads... plastic tray with removable pads made of what appears to be the same absorbent material disposable diapers are made.

G/F used them and it seemed to work pretty good.

A buddy of mine has one of these (or something like it) on his sail boat. He lives aboard the boat with his basset hound most of the summer.

Seems to work.
