Website: How to recognize mobile devices & send to mobile site?
How do you teach/tell a main website to recognize a mobile browser and send it to a *.mobi site? Googled it, and it sounds like PHP scripts are easiest/simplest, but where to you put such scripts? What is the simplest way to redirect iPhones, Blackberries, etc. elsewhere?
Is it too hard for a non-programmer? Wayne has done this for these forums, USA Today & American Airlines do it. But Wall Street Journal and others have not.... I was a long time GoLive user, and have CS4 suite, but I finally went to Dreamweaver, and, compared to the Photoshop/GoLive/InDesign sort of graphic, tangible feel, Dreamweaver is killing me with all its little tricks and subtleties. |

Thanks for your assumption. Unfortunately, your assumption is wrong.
I Googled a few days ago, got some PHP scripts, and was even able to customize them. Unfortunately, I don't know know what a PHP script is. I don't know code either, as I do this work as a layman only - for small companies run by friends and/or not-for-profits that can't afford sites. I put the PHP code into my test page, and uploaded it, and there it was....Googled again, and it said put into your htaccess file. My servers don't have such a file. Just wondering if anybody who DOES know what they are doing knows what to do and can explain it in a way a layman can understand. Thanks again.... |
