first autoX since...late 80's?
i cant even remember when it was. i drove my 280z, man i miss that car. this will be the first on e in my 911.
i was going to try a few runs with it stock, then maybe disconnect the front sway bar. anyone ever do this for autoX? i have a KB bar in my car, i wish i had the belts for it. i have a set of Y belts but they will not work. i have been looking at the corbeau seats. i feel like i am spending all my efforts just trying to stay in the seat with just the little spirited driving i do even though i lock the stock seatbelt. the police set up a driving course out here at work sometimes. if i time it right, they let me do some runs when they are between groups. man i hate the slalom parts. there is a class the next day, but i think the fee is $200. they said you get a lot more track time

this is what I use and it works well at holding you in. Not a full harness but its also not a full harness

Before I had a dedicated race seat in the car, I would move the seat back on the sliders, then latch the seat belt, and then slide the seat back up into position, this would really help to bind me down in the seat.

A close seating position and effective use of the dead pedal will keep you pretty well in the bucket. In a typical autocross there is less going on with the clutch foot than most road courses, and spirited street driving. Typical autocross montra: get into second and hang on for the ride. I found the biggest hurdle in autocrossing was getting used to a clunky 915 gear box in my SC.

Remember, slow in, fast out.
A CG lock is really effective, too. |

my mother in law sells racing stuff at the cirlce jerk (trackss) up north. she is sending me some of the tie in belts to work with the bar i have.
i usually lock the stock seat belt. i lock it, then with some sucking in of the gut and maybe some help, i get it clipped in. car is running best it has since i bought it. i just recently disconnected the vacuum retard, retarded max timing to the full advance timing mark, leaned the mixture out and now it pulls strong to the rev limiter. with the retard connected, i was running very rich due to slight spark knock (if i used 87 oct fuel) and bucking at low RPM. i think the curve on my dizzy is wrong even though it was sent off and checked. my timing spec is 0 TDC, i was setting it about 5 ATDC but the full advance was past the 30? deg timing mark. now i have full advance at 30deg, but my idle timing is about 7 BTDC. it makes for a lilttle harder starting, but it runs much better. no spark knock, even with 87 oct fuel. yes, some will scold me for 87, but 93 is just too expensive just to drive to work. i will use 93 for the AX. i needed to be able to lean the mixture out because past 4k RPM it was losing power and blowing smoke due to being way too rich. i will get the LM2 back next week and verify the mixture, although i dought i will change it from where it is.

what a day. cold and raining. long day for 5 1 minute runs. oh, i finished first for novice. i got some good advice before. a friend that does very well did a one on one walk through then i did 2 more walk throughs with the pro's as a group.
my first run i did very slow adn just wanted to stay on course. charlie, my friend, was very impressed with my time. i was just getting a little understeer the first run. my second run i went faster, more understeer. charlie road with me the 3rd run and i missed a cone and had a dnf. but over all he said i was doing very good. he felt i should have been going faster in this long 270 sweeper. my forth run was another dnf, dont know what i missed. my last one was my fastest, but the coures was drying in some places so that made a difference. you can go here to see the results. the 2 fast cars were a MR2 and an old rabbit. they were pro's and they were gettin it. its a long day for such short seat time. i may do the one next month, if it is dry, and then may start doing track days. Twist the belt at the buckle before buckling up - it'll help.
