Exactly what is there to win in Copenhagen?

...the climate fest

I'm just wondering, do they get points for the biggest limo, or the most limo's? ...perhaps for limo's shipped (flown?) in from the most distant country? -quite a few of those.

Same Q for the 140 private jets landing the 'greeners" there, on scene.

And how long does that conference last?

It's so comforting that the smart people are all getting together to figure out how we peons should live.

Tobra 12-08-2009 07:32 PM

Danish hookers?

fintstone 12-08-2009 08:26 PM

Great place to hide out while your countrymen endure double digit unemployment and record deficits. Common folks are such a downer for the ruling elite this time of year.

onewhippedpuppy 12-08-2009 08:38 PM

You mean they aren't all arriving by Prius?

Joeaksa 12-08-2009 09:17 PM

Biggest bunch of crap we have seen in years. There is over 1000 limo's imported from all over Europe, yet they are staying that they are worried about global warming and flew their private jets from around the world to stick their noses up each others cracks.

Vote everyone of them out of office everywhere!

You gotta stop reading the tabloids Joe...

island911 12-08-2009 11:20 PM

What exactly IS the point of the conference?

Seems to me to be just a bunch of blowhards getting together to promulgate their self-importance.

They are working to build a consensus for wealthier countries like the US to transfer more of that wealth to the less wealthy (like China).

island911 12-08-2009 11:40 PM

Thanks Stoney. That would explain the need for all those hookers, I suppose. Lots of drugs and booze too, I expect.

Consensus ought to be a bit tough with the whole climate-gate breaking just before the party. --a big turd in their gold & crystal punch-bowl.

You need to stop drinking the kook-aid.

I have family living in Kopenhagen and am getting the information from THEM, not CNN or the other liberal news network.

Suppose Island911's info is not correct either?

You can apologise at anytime...

Spot on! Wasting time, energy and money to make themselves seem important. Also it gives them an excuse to jet around to Europe to do Christmas shopping and write it off on their taxes.

GH85Carrera 12-09-2009 05:43 AM

You would think they could do 99.9% of the conference via the video conference. But that is no fun.

One article said they had to drive limos in from as far away as Germany!

Germany borders with Denmark, so its not a far drive. Hamburg and Bremen is an hours drive, possibly two if you take the ferry, and Berlin is only 3 hours drive, so its not a long ways.

Denmark has very few limos in the whole country. They are bringing them from all over Northern Germany, Holland and Sweden, which has a bridge directly to Kopenhagen.

My God, if they do not have enough limo's the high muckety mucks might have to ride in a regular car! They would never be the same...

sammyg2 12-09-2009 06:59 AM

A small group of very powerful people stand to gain even more power and a great deal of money. Huge sums.
The rest of us will get screwed really, really badly.

legion 12-09-2009 07:05 AM

What is there to win?

Taxes!

It works on two levels. First, industrialized countries raise their taxes to atone for their carbon sins, then they send the money to non-industrialized countries to bribe them not to industrialize (or to at least do it in a "green" manner).

It's a massive transfer of wealth! What's not to love?

mca 12-09-2009 08:08 AM

On Monday night NBC Nightly News called it a "matter of life or death" .... holy crap.

Then they ran the prop footage of the Fiji woman crying about sea level rise and how it would destroy her country.

Then they ran the EPA annoucement about CO2 being a health hazard.

Ugh. I am fed up. Civil war could be on the horizon.

ENEMEY #1 = CO2 .... not cancer, not aids, not hunger, not poverty ... but CO2.

Seriously, what is this world coming to? Up is down and wrong is right. I've had it.

McLovin 12-09-2009 08:36 AM

Of course, as with almost all things government, it's all about money.

More specifically, who to take it from and who to give it to, and who gets their cuts in the process.

sammyg2 12-09-2009 09:15 AM

This morning on the fake news (ABC) they showed a story about how Micronesia is disappearing due to the rising seal level from global warming.
One of the politicians from micronesia (who is going to Copenhagen) was telling how graveyards are now underwater, vast farmlands are now flooded, people are starving, how Micronesia will soon cease to exist. Tragic.

Yet, I checked the facts. The mean sea level around Micronesia has risen between ZERO AND ONE FOOT OVER THE PAST CENTURY. You wouldn't think that a rise of under 1 foot would wipe out and entire nation and cause widespread starvation, would you? no, of course you wouldn't. That'd be silly.

Someone is lying. Someone is going to copenhagen with his hand out, someone waiting in line to get really big checks from our government and others. Someone waiting for OUR TAX DOLLARS!

There have been books written by American political "progressives", stating that the reason communism has NEVER worked was because it was only done one country at a time, one region at a time. The people living in communist countries could see how others had it better off and that led to the downfall.
According to them, the only way to make communism work is to do it on a global scale. Make every country the same. These authors and their work are well-known by our folks in DC.

Make everyone in the world poor, make everyone share the same hardships, make it so the grass is never greener.
Take away everything from the prosperous countries (and individuals) and redistribute it so that the prosperous countries are no longer prosperous and the poor countries aren't quite as poor as before.
That way no one would look at any other country and see it doing better.
Get rid of first, second, and third world countries and make them all third world. Get rid of the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class and make them all lower class. Except for the ruling class of course, they'll still be wealthy beyond imagination.
It might take a generation or two to get rid of the memories of how good it used to be, and they'll have to get rid of all the free-market propeganda and books. And private businesses. they'd all have to go.

Sound familiar? It should.

legion 12-09-2009 09:18 AM

Are we at war with Eastasia or Eurasia?

Well said.

The sad truth is that the vast majority don't even know it is happening.

Welcome to the liberal news spin machine. Even after the leaked emails prove that the scientists are lying about this situation, the wacko's are trying to use this situation to push more wacko laws into effect.

Correct.

The "vast majority" watches CNN, ABC, CBS or NBC and thinks that they are getting the news and the truth, which they are not.

It is both sad and laughable.

Last year I took a few months and buried my head in the sand. I just didn't want to hear it anymore. I was tired of the bailouts, GW, real estate crash, etc. Ignorance is bliss.

I do find comfort in the fact that many of you feel the same.

island911 12-09-2009 11:12 AM

more comfort ... Global Warming Petition Project

Just because the political "green" crowd jet-sets around, holds week-long high-exposure 'conferences' does not make their goals (of massive taxation) worthy.

The Al Gore types pay the peon 'scientists,' who will play for team Gore, a pittance, as the grand-plan is spun-up. (it's BIG business - bigger than Enron)

Per one of the news stations, the American people's belief in "climate change" has never been lower. At least some of our fellow countrymen have some sense. Now if we could just do something about our leadership.....

Joeaksa 12-09-2009 02:57 PM

Believe me, some of us are working on it. Three of them need to go in the worst way but frankly I am in the mood to vote every incumbent out of office next fall and start over again.

Wouldn't term limits be great right about now? I don't give a damn what party you are affiliated with, politician shouldn't be a career.

The sad thing is, that won't stop them. Look at California. They have term limits and it hasn't prevented politics from being a career there.

Honestly, I'm equally afraid of rank amateurs running everything as I am of professionals. Both have MAJOR downsides. We know the downsides to the pros. What about the amateurs?

Can you imagine a government taking radically different directions after every election? The pros do bring some stability to things. (Even if it means institutionalizing some evils.) Change is gradual--even if gradually in the wrong direction. A total lack of stability would destroy small business. Think Brazil.

boba 12-09-2009 07:04 PM

What we need is gridlock.

With gridlock the politicians do their thing, make lots of wind but nothing get done. Everyone can go about their life laugh about the silly politicians at dinner. Now that they are trying to actually do something we start to see how scary this could be(is).

Oh, for the good old days.

Joeaksa 12-09-2009 07:25 PM

The term limit legislation is being done wrong.

Two terms then you never serve in any state or govt post again. You go home and get a job.

Right now its worded so that you can do two terms in one office, then shift sideways and go to another office. Feeding off of the taxpayers money the rest of your life.

Its needs to be TWO TERMS PERIOD then you are done!
