Another one bites the dust...

A week ago today, I became another casualty of mis-management, failing economy, etc. For the first time in my life of 47 years, I got laid off. My position was eliminated.

Funny, I thought I'd have all kinds of time on my hands, but the days have absolutely flown by. Thought about posting about it here several times, but just wasn't in the frame of mind to do it. Guess I'm still in shock. :(

looking for a job is a fultime job. get that new resume done and out there, or start a small business.

sorry for your job loss. did you see the thread on the ranks of unemployed?

good luck, and get to work.

No time to rest on your laurels...start networking contacts from your old position. Start your own consulting firm or the business you've always wanted.

Good luck...better days ahead. I just feel it.

so what are your lines of work?

Damn! Sorry to hear.

BTDT.

Smart advice has already been posted to I won't offer any.

What I will tell you is that after I was laid off from my long term, good income job I was lost.

Now, 10 months later, my wife and I are both working and our finances will actually be in much better shape than before.

Bottom line? Hang in there and keep sending resumes and networking with folks.

Sometimes, blessings suck until you come out the other side.
Good luck, my friend.

Thanks for the shoulders. You never think it will happen to you until something like this happens.

Fortunately, I was there for 7 1/2 years and got a little severance. Balance of unused vacation and salary until March. Not much, but more than some. I know it's three months, but I'm sure that will go very quickly, so I have already started talking to people I know and putting some feelers out there. I'm going to polish up my resume this week.

I am trying to look at this as an opportunity to improve my life. I have not been very happy at work for the past couple of years, mainly due to increased supply and demand. No matter how much I supplied, they demanded more  .

I was an Applications Engineer for a company that sold, installed and serviced large scale fire alarm, intrusion detection, CCTV, access control, CATV, and sound systems. I designed and laid out systems using AutoCad. My specialty is audio/video systems, so I would like to find a position in a company that does more of that than fire alarm and security. In a previous life, I did the same thing for large scale homes. It was fun, but not as stable as commercial work.

you sound like you could become an insurance investigator easily knowing those systems. as a get-me-by job. lots of loosses, "paper trail" investigator

Good luck with the search David.

Sorry about your misfortune man, Consider starting your own company doing the same type of work...
