So is the fast, stealthy manned reconnaissance plane history? No real SR-71 follow-up?

The maintenance budget for the SR-71s was about $10 million a year, EACH!
Not exactly cost efficient. It needed to be fast to outrun SAMs. Making the plane invisible to SAMs is a whole bunch cheaper than making it faster than SAMs. |

"Now, the French blog Secret Defense has published the clearest photos yet of the secret plane, and the mystery has only deepened."
Leave it to the French to publish classified info on the American military. Why am I not surprised.

Jane's Defense Review has been publishing these "secrets" for the last 111 years. Just look at what they have "exposed" over that time period. LOL, flying a "super secret" drone in board daylight and expecting it to be still a secret. What will they think of next?
