i bought a Dell Inspiron 11Z
11 inch screen
1.3ghz duo core Pentium ultra low voltage
2gig ram
160 gig disk

That thing blows netbooks away at pretty much the same price, just a bit bigger
I run it with XP
Battery life is... well, it's ok'ish 2 hours full use on the 3cell battery...

It's just the size of a sheet of A4 paper, in fact don't have a laptop bag, i just put it with in my 2 inch thick papers pouch when i go onsite...

Have you ever used a computer without a keyboard? Ever used a table like device? I used a Palm Lifedrive for several years. I quickly came to the conclusion that a keyboard is a good thing.

They make 11 inch net books. The 1.6 GHz Atom processor is fine for what I do with it. 6-8 hours on the battery is nice. I also use a portfolio, and the Netbook fits in perfectly.

This Netbook can do everything my regular PC does, Quickbooks, Mail, web-browsing, etc, in the nice small form factor. I do prefer my full size "Laptop" for serious work. See the Windows 7 thread for that discussion.
