Anyone catch Nat. Geo's Narco State last night?
I didn't catch it all, but what I did see left me shaking my head or yelling "bullsheet" at the tv. Now, I don't mind Phoenix having a bad reputation at all. I wish it were as bad as Detroit's so fewer people (especially from KA) would move here. But Lisa Ling made it look like Phoenix is more dangerous than Iraq or Afghanistan. Why can't I remember the last time I read about a suicide bombing here or heard a gunshot in anger? Yes, Phoenix has a lot of kidnappings. But 100% of them involve illegal aliens and/or drug runners (but I repeat myself). If you don't run in those circles, you are totally untouched by this. Even when I've been in some of the seedier areas of town, I have not had the slightest feeling of being in danger and it's nothing close to what I regularly saw in DC. Ling also interviewed a local gun store owner, who will likely be boycotted now. The weapons she showed recovered in Mexico were a grenade launcher and an M-60. Everyone knows these cannot be purchased legally in the US by any civilian. Yet, the show went on to say that the Mexican drug gangs are getting their arms from Arizona. They forgot to mention that those arms, while made in the US, go to the Mexican military and are then stolen by or sold to the drug gangs. If they were able to track down the DC snipers by bullets recovered from a tree stump in WA State, why can't they show a single gun recovered in Mexico that was legally bought in a gun store in AZ? I have never once seen this shown on tv, yet it's all we hear about. We always see trucks full of drugs and cash, but they can't seem to come up with any guns bought in gun stores in AZ.
Anyway, this is just another example of a so-called investigative "journalist" coming up with a show to support her pre-existing and uninformed opinions on something she really has no clue about. |
The press does it's best to scare the krap out of us. This to create a "need" for more government. It never asks why government isn't doing the job it's supposed to...like not allowing illegal immigration.

Rick;
You have to remember that Lisa Ling is a mouthpiece for the likes of Al Gore. If it don't sell, it isn't news. |
No, I think you're thinking of her sister.

A couple of months ago one of the local TV stations was doing a news bit at the border fence where they had installed some new video cameras, the ones that caught the mexican man beating a dog on the Mexican side of the fence and a huge gun battle broke out between the solders and the drug guys about 50 yards inside Mexico. The reporter is an ex Marine and he and the cameraman filmed a bunch of the action before the bullets got too close and the Border Patrol had them move back. It aired for about 3 days before the Mexican counsel in San Diego raised enough of a stink so they quit the replays.
Things have gotten very bad over the border and the owner of Garage Los Ponchos told me he had not done any 914 work for a very long time! |

I recently did some ride-alongs in Sunny Slope.
I'm more familiar with the likes of East St. Louis and North St. Louis. Those places make your Sunny Slope like like a frickin' resort destination. That Narco State program was "journalistic" crap. |

I'd recommend you send the reporter to the ghetto of philly so she could see what real crime and violence is like, but i doubt she'd survive.
