The Mosconi cup...Europe has dominated in the past, simply because they have more countries to draw players from. Here's a fun video of hilights...I love the crowd shots. Team USA in the red shirts.

Speaking of Willie Mosconi, he's in my book about the oldest bar in every state. The oldest bar in North Carolina, Bessie's (in Wilmington, est. 1887), is also a pool hall. On November 13, 1953 Mosconi was playing in an 8-ball tournament. He kind of dominated that day.
He sank 365 consecutive balls over the course of 46 games, shattering the old record. The records still stands. You can still play on the record-breaking table, although you'd have to play on all three of their tables, as they don't remember which of the three he played on. Now if I could just find a publisher for the book.
