Blackberry, Verizon, and tethering to pc.....
So my internet is down at my house and after some research found a program called "tetherberry" which has a 7 day free trial.
Download the tetherberry program on your pc, and also on your bb..... Plug in bb via usb and walla.....internet for your pc via your unlimited data plan on your bb.....not the "dial up" system they want to charge you monthly for which has data restrictions..... Just thought I'd share the info as its so easy to setup and could be usefull if you ever need a connection and your phone has signal.... Its not as fast as my digital modem, but not bad

Yeah and when they see your data usage on the phone go thru the roof a couple of months in a row you'll find out just how "unlimited" your plan really is.

If you have an unlimited plan you should be OK for emergency casual surfing. There is no REAL unlimited though.

Actually, I have 2 bb's on my plan and it is actually unlimited......
I tested it the 2nd month I had it but transfering more than 5 gig in a week or so.....I have the number but I'd have to look it up of my usage for that month.... Everyone should know EXACTLY what their data plan can do.......

By the way - Verizon's unlimited data plan is 5 gig a month. Go over that and they will terminated your service!

I've got a T-mobile G1 (Google phone). My mother lives in the sticks in the panhandle of Florida. She doesn't have dialup or broadband. When I go to her house, I can use the data plan on my G1 to surf if I really have to. I have a wifi tethering program. It turns my G1 into a hot spot, so I don't even have to have the computer physically connected to the phone. It's freakin' awesome!

Same thing with iPhone
Tethering works fine. I only use it when I travel. |

A guy I work with needs to tether his i-phone.......what does he need to do to make that work?
I check my usage last night.....and was never even near a gig for a month for normal browsing so I won't have any issue with my tethering usage......I couldn't find the 5 gig limit in my verizon contract anywhere.....but I'm sure it does exist LOL

ATT does not allow tethering at this point, although there have been rumors about selling an additional service for tethering. Currently, iPhone users are taxing ATT's 3G bandwidth so much , that there is no way they are going to allow it until they figure out how to deal with the traffic they already have.
Having said that, tethering is being used by the jailbreak community. He will have to jailbreak his phone. This allows one to customize and install applications that are not digitally signed by apple. After that, you can easily hack your phone to allow tethering or buy an app which is already set up for you. If he is interested, have him research Blackra1n and visit iPhone Modifications - iPhone Forums

It will most likely be buried and a very short paragraph relating to accepted usage or data type. Typically an unlimited plan is for "Web and email". Unaccepted usage will be things like streaming audio/video, VOIP, file transfer, server communications, peer to peer........ Basically high bandwidth stuff. If your usage spikes or exceeds the "average" set by their consumer base they will assume you are using protocols that are prohibited. If you do it occasionally they may ignore it. If it becomes regular you will hear from them.
