I think I might have to move to CA...

I flew into San Fran yesterday for business and in short round trip between San Fran and Watsonville (hwy 17 is a fun little stretch of road), I saw 1 SC Targa, 1 Carrera Coupe, 2 993s and 2 Carrera cabs. I am sitting in a Starbucks right now in San Bruno and outside is a nice 944 ( I realize not air-cooled, but from the right era)and as I was pulling into the parking a lot, I passed another SC. This place is covered in air-cooled cars!

go further south of San Bruno Palo Alto Stanford University area you'll see a lot. I probably saw 7 air-cooled P-cars ranging from coupes, targas and convertibles..you name it and of course water-cooled 911 a dime a dozen :D

West Marine's HQ is there - they are one of my clients.

Are those the guys who make "west systems epoxy"? If so cool stuff, we've used them for years for custom fish tanks..........

ruby911 12-16-2009 08:28 AM

Bell - I dont think so. They are the US's largest boating supplies retailer.

looneybin 12-16-2009 08:39 AM

Hwy 17 is a blast, but also try Hecker Pass from Watsonville to Gilroy sometime

bell 12-16-2009 08:45 AM

The west system epoxy is for marine (boats) applications......it just happens to be the perfect potable resin out there which is why we use it in tanks......

The grass is always greener on the other side of the country... The full length of Highway 17 from Highway 1 to I-280 has been my daily commute for the past 27 years (usually in various 3-pedal Sport Pkg BMW's and not my Carrera)... Night and day, rain or shine... Drove it this morning... Will drive it again later today...

My sis - in - law does research at Moss Landing.

My (admittedly minimal) experience with 17 is that it can be a blast - or a long skinny parking lot.

This is why I can never live there. Love to visit, but love being able to leave too. Watsonville is home to BMW of Santa Cruz, a killer dealership. CA is paradise if you like classic cars.

First thing I thought of when I read "Moss Landing."

When I was in Malibu this summer, me and a friend had a game where we counted how many Porsches and Priuses we saw in the 5 miles of PCH we were skipping up and down.

Over that stretch over the course of 4 hours we spotted over 24 996 or 997 Carreras, two 997 Turbos, a 993, a 964 cab, an SC, a 928GTS (!), and a 951.

My mind was blown.

Oh... we also counted 34 Priuses. Or Priii. Whatever.

isn't Gilroy garlic central?

sammyg2 12-16-2009 11:39 AM

Yes there are allot of Porsches in California, but that's only because we have a bazillion cars on the road!
Traffic sucks here and 1/10 of em don't have driver's licences or insurance.

My Mom and Dad were just out there and I had them stop on the way back from Carmel to Los Altos and pick me up a couple strings of garlic for me here.
One for me and one as a present.
Gilroy Garlic is Great.
So are the strawberries and the artichokes down the road.

Wish I could live out there.
There are gheys commies and drug addicts everywhere - I'll bet you gott'em in a town near you too Rick.
Probably not a a few right wing wacko's too.

Deschodt 12-16-2009 12:52 PM

I want to as well, it is paradise in terms of Porsches, good mechanics, good food, scenery, climate, etc... but I am a little concerned by the state's financial situation... I want to make sure the local gov't doesn't ream residents (more than they already do) to fill in the budget gaps...
