RIP Max September 14, 1995 - December 11, 2009

I got Max from the pound when he was 8 weeks old. He was with me when I got married and when we adopted our little girl. Would chase deer, but his best friend was a cat. Never really ever got sick or injured. But these last 6 months have really seen him slowing down. My wife said he really was going down hill the week I was in the hospital. I got out on Tuesday and Max was waiting at the door for me. Laid next to me for the next two days as I rested on the sofa. On Thursday he could barely get up and move around. Took him to the Vet and found out he had kidney failure and there was nothing to be done. Almost like he was just holding on waiting for me to get home. I was there for him at the end. One of the hardest things I ever had to do. Goodbye old friend.

One of his usual activities in later years:

Saying goodbye yesterday:

And Max says Merry Christmas to all of you:

So sad, Kurt.

I'm sure ol' Max loved you guys as much as you did him.

RIP.

Sorry to hear it, I know how hard it can be. My oldest GS Samson has had his lymphoma return, and we are just keeping him comfortable and spoiling him. I know the end is also approaching quickly for him.

Kurt, I lost my little buddy Barqs yesterday. I know what you are feeling. Of all the words I heard yesterday, these were the most comforting: "Don't cry because it's over...smile because it happened". These are the days all of us as pet owners know will someday happen, and that unconditional love leaves a huge void in your family. Hang in there, you gave Max a great home. I think he & Barqs are running at the Bridge discussing the finer points of how to ride in a 911.

Sorry to hear it, unfortunately I know the feeling well. There is a lot of bright side on this one, though, 14 years is pretty good for a Shepherd and you obviously gave him an outstanding life. Feeling your loss...
