Last week we were towing a rental lift around town with a buddies new F250 (gasoline V8). We stored the lift in a warehouse at night. Backed the F250 inside to un-couple the trailer. Buddy got out of the truck and left it idling. I was about to admonish him for leaving the truck running inside the building (I have the nose of a bloodhound and typically get a nasty headache from exhaust fumes). I was surprised that my "nose alarm" didn't go off, my eyes weren't burning and I didn't get a headache. The emissions from this truck were VERY clean. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I'd say it would take much more time to die from the exhaust of a modern car. |
I won't be testing that theory any time soon. ;)
I also heard a story of a man that jump started his car with his wifes car in the garage in the morning, forgot to turn the car off, and came home at the end of the day to find his wife, daughter, and dog all dead. Horrifying for sure. But it is in no way criminal. Accidents happen in life, they cannot be undone. The never ending guilt generated by any decent human being's conscience is far more than enough punishment as far as i am concerned. |
I install carbon monoxide detectors right alongside of my smoke detectors. While I trust myself not to screw up, I can't trust someone else not to.
