I'd agree; about the part about not being an environmental whack job that is.
As a developer for the past 30 years, I've seen my share of them.

"Hey!!! Now that I've cut down the trees for my place, I'll be damned if we're gonna cut down anymore!" quoted the NIMBY (not in my back yard)

the message was so heavily weighted to 'whats wrong' and I prefer the 'whats right' approach. garbage in, garbage out concept. In other words, if you have the data that there's something wrong, how about focusing on the solution? Maybe she did get to one, I dunno cuzz I couldn't watch too much of it. Far to neg for me.

the world is OK, yes we can be concerned, but compared to 100 years ago, things are much better now than then, and guess what? They'll gonna get better too! Thanks to the one's that provide solutions, not the ones that focus on the challenges.

I'd highly suggest that we focus on what we want and avoid focusing on what we dont want. It's 'no secret', ha. ha.

I made it to the government polishing the shoes of industry part. I kind of agree with the message/concept, but that smug b*tch just pissed me off with her delivery. How many trees to print that book she's hawking?

If you don't cut down trees they will eventually die, so not cutting any doesn't make any sense either. Once I heard the tree issue I stopped listening but thanks for posting.

It sounds like Leonard is saying that 96 percent of our forests have been cut down, but what she's really saying is that some trees have been cut down at some point in the last 400 years in nearly every forest.

Misleading: "80 percent of the planet's original forests are gone."

• The U.N. reports that 30 percent of the earth's land surface is forested. Though many areas have been logged, the film seems to imply that 80 percent of forests are now gone, which is untrue. Though still a substantial environmental problem, the U.N. reports that the rate of deforestation is going down.

False: "Of the largest 100 economies on earth now, 51 are corporations."

• According to a 2002 study at the University of Leuven in Belgium, that number should be about 37. And even the largest corporation is tiny compared to some of the world's biggest economies — Exxon, the biggest of all, is 1/200th the size of the U.S. economy. The error came about because environmentalists were comparing the sales of corporations to the GDP of nations, which aren't comparable.

Misleading: "75 percent of global fisheries now are fished at or beyond capacity."

• According to the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization, 24 percent of the fisheries they're monitoring are over-exploited or depleted. Fifty-two percent are being fished at or near capacity, which means fish stocks aren't going up, but they won't necessarily go down either.

- Both stmts. are correct. They are only "misleading" if you can't read well: it refers to ORIGINAL forests. Our old-growth, cliseral forests have been replaced almost entirely by young stands of trees, nearly all of the same age. They have been turned into tree farms.

to put it simply, our forests have been turned into something like corn fields.

A forest is a very complex ecosystem type, with trees of different species and different age classes (not to mention the thousands of other species that live there).

- too bad legion get his "information" from Faux News. it is a mouthpiece for Rupert Murdoch and has a definite agenda.

and BTW - if you had to build hundreds of miles of logging roads to get to that 1 tree, then you have caused some severe impacts to that forest


some may be interested to know that a coalition of local enviro groups & logging co.s have proposed a bill to increase logging in Oregon - it will remove smaller trees and leave the larger ones, reducing fire hazard & speeding succession to cliseral states (aka, climax)
