ITunes DRM?

Question guys.....

Downloaded a movie from ITunes, want to watch it on home TV. Copied to DVD but (apparently) has DRM which will not allow it to play on my DVD.

Is there a way to watch it if I don't have AppleTV?

BitTorrent, FTW!

Are you sure it's a DRM issue?

Is the ituna format compatible with a DVD player? Or does it need to be converted?

Also, some DVD players just don't like DVD-R or DVD-RW media. Have you played bootleg DVDs before without problems?

If on a laptop plug it straight into the TV.

Good point. Did you make a DVD or just burn the file to a disc?

DVD format is .vob

Can you hook the computer up to the TV? My TV has VGA in (and S8 video in) so thats how we do it.

Downloaded to ipod originally; then copied to laptop (where it wont play either). Copy was made for there. Ipod is dead......

That's why I think it must be a DRM issue. The file size is correct and the timer on the media player (Windows Media and also VLC) ticks but I get no sound nor video.

If you do not have the proper CO/DEC for the video format you will get stuff like no audio/video when playing on a computer.

How did you copy it to the disc. Did you make an actual DVD format disc?

If you pop it into the computer and view the contents you should see a Audio_TS and Video_TS folders. The Audio folder will be empty, that's normal. The files in the Video folder should end in .vob

If that's not what you see then you do not have a properly formatted DVD.

apples drm is very tough to crack. there is a group that feels that it goes to far and has a piece of software that will re rite the data to your hd without the drm. ther is a little loss of inf with the duplication but it is the best you can do. amazon will let you dnload movies and other media and has no drm accociated with it.

Actually Apple DRM is one of the easiest to get rid of. Convert to a different file format then burn is usually all it takes.

For audio just burn to a an audio cd then rip back as mp3.

The file is an *.m4v" format. I did a plain copy which would explain the problem with the DVD player (Thanks!).

I gather the issue on the laptop is the copy protection.

I guess I'll have to go to Blockbuster and pay again for what I already own....... :(

AVS video converter will convert to another format.

I'd like to piggy back on the iTunes DRM issue for a moment...

I've noticed everytime I wipe my PC and reload the OS I find iTunes saying I've authorized my "4th out of 5" computers. WTF!??? Am I to understand iTunes will not let me keep my apps and music after the next time I have to reload the OS due to a virus or something???

No, your account is good to use on up to 5 computers concurrently. Meaning if you authorize your desktop and your laptop and your wife's computer then any content purchased from iTunes store is playable on any of the others.

Now let's say you have 5 authorized computers and one dies, gets stolen whatever and you get a new one. You can't authorize that new one until you de-authorize one of the 5. If you have one that is nonfunctional and can't de-authorize it then you just go to your iTunes account and de-authorize all 5 then re-authorize them again.

If you only have one PC and are up to 4 authorizations then you should de-authorize everything and then re-authorize the PC.

Might want to de-authorize before you do a wipe/restore.

Hmmm. I'll have to look into this. Any tips on where to find the de-authorize option in iTunes?

I still buy all of my music on CD, but...

I bought my wife a Droid and a Sansa MP3 player. No way in hell I'm ever re-buying music for her.

Super_Dave_D 12-22-2009 07:09 AM

No need to resist!!
