Brittany Murphy dead at 32

A bit of a shock, seeing how young she was. Reports say it was cardiac arrest. Bummer.

From CNN:

Quote:
Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Brittany Murphy, the bubbly, free-spirited actress who appeared in films including "Clueless" and "8 Mile," has died, Los Angeles police and hospital officials said Sunday. She was 32.

Murphy was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. PT Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Sally Stewart told CNN Radio.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the death, and robbery and homicide detectives will be at her home, LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said. No other details were immediately available.

"Cardiac Arrest" is a symptom, not a cause. Pretty much every dies of cardiac arrest.

Not much being said on drugs so far. The news articles do mention her "emaciated appearance" and concerns for her health. I guess we will find out more in the coming days.

I don't buy that...

"Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of sudden cardiac arrest. Many other cardiac and non–cardiac conditions also increase ones risk."

Yep, one of my all-time favorite actresses. She didn't do a lot of "heavy" stuff, but everything she did was enjoyable. She also did A LOT of voice over work for cartoons.

I suspect just eating disorder. Look at her in "Clueless" versus the last 10 years.

She didn't have a reputation as a partying or drug addict.

May be not, but she pretty much invented "Heroin Chic". I'm guessing there's a bit of better living through chemistry involved.

"cardiac arrest" is the code for "overdose"

"extended illness" is the code for "AIDS"

Long-term eating disorders can do major damage to the heart as well.

That's just my guess. I obviously have no first-hand knowledge.

She was one of my favorites. It's sad. I hope she's at ease in heaven now.

Rerun? She got married in spring 07, according to wiki. I'd never heard of her.

She had radiant eyes and smile. Her family has lost a wife and a daughter. So young.

Exactly. In fact, as a resident, you're taught NOT to write cardiac arrest as the cause of death when filling out death certificate forms. After all, the only people who don't die of cardiac arrest are the people who are declared brain dead. Medical examiner's office prefers you to write a specific disease that most imminently led to the death.

Of course, in this case, no MD at Cedars will be filling out the death certificate. I'd be surprised if the coroner didn't take up this case (young person, previously healthy, suspicious death, declared dead within 24 hrs of arrival in a hospital--all criteria for a coroner's investigation, though it is up to the ME to decide if they want the case or pass). If the coroner takes the case, then they fill out the death certificate.

Regardless the circumstances, RIP. Condolences to her husband and family.
