"Official" Guidelines for the PPOT Christmas Party/Gift Exchange

FINAL UPDATE: 12/22/09 @12:09 a.m. EST OK you procrastinating bastages...if you haven't mailed your gift, the shipping limit is rescinded. Overnighting for outrageous $$$$ is a small price to pay to avoid public pelican humiliation and wrath you will receive for the next year...

UPDATE: 12/17/09 @ 1:30 a.m. You guys are cracking me up ' Never seen so much school boy excitement over white elephant gifts. Proof positive its never too late to have a happy childhood. I will post the names of each participant with a x-reference to who drew your name on Christmas day or thereabouts. That alone should be threat enough for humiliation if you procrastinate or reneg on your commitment to this zaniness. Everything running smoothly as far as I can tell. SPECIAL LUBEMASTER RULE: IF YOU DREW LUBEY'S NAME PLEASE DELAY MAILING HIS GIFT UNTIL AT LEAST NEW YEAR'S...BOY IS GOING NUTS WAITING ON GIFT. Might drive him over the edge once and for all Probably will allow him to relive childhood experiences...like the time in 3rd grade when nobody gave him a valentine at the school party. Or always being picked last for playground dodgeball teams.

UPDATE: 12/10/09 @9:03 a.m.: EVERYONE should have their PM as to who to send a gift to now. PM me if you have not yet received a name and addy. I discovered I inadvertently forwarded one person's addy back to them in addition to PM'ing them their beneficiary. Corrected. Make sure you have received a forwarded PM to someone other than yourself. I doublechecked and think it was an isolated incident. Yeah...that's the tickect...isolated incident

UPDATE: 12/9/09 12:53 p.m. EST: Many of you are PM'ing me as to why you got a message with a name and addy addressed to me. THIS AIN'T ROCKET SURGERY FOLKS. I just forwarded the PM's verbatim that were sent to me. The name/address you received FROM me is who YOU send a gift TO.

ON THE SUBJECT OF NAMES....Some of you didn't include your real name in the PM to me...just your screen name. Probably the same folks who obliterate their license plates when they post a pic of their car here as if everybody on the public roads doesn't have access to it I suggest you a) check to see if the person's name is in their sig line or/and b) address it to their screen name/current resident if that's all you have. For those shy souls who did not include a proper name, please advise your postal carrier of your pseudonym.

1. On 12/8/09 I will randomly draw and assign each of you the name of another Pelican you will be responsible for sending a gift. Don't PM me requesting somebody's name. Strictly random. Unless you want to bribe me.

2. You will receive a PM from me forwarding a name/address. This is who you will send your gift to. I will post on this thread when all PM's have been sent. If you haven't received a PM once I announce they've all gone out, post here and I will resend it.

3. Keep the postage/shipping to a nominal cost...say under $8-10. USPS has a flat rate box anywhere in CONUS for around $8 regardless of weight if it fits in their box. This rule does not apply if someone wants to ship ME something wildly exotic and expensive. Like a fresh LSD G50. Otherwise keep it at a minimum.

4. YOU CANNOT BUY THE GIFT YOU SEND. Has to be something you already have and don't mind parting with. If sending used articles of clothing, GOD man....have the decency to wash them first.

5. Gifts can be serious, funny, thoughtful, appropriate, Porsche related, non-Porsche related, specific for the recipient, indicative of the giver's taste, whatever. Please exercise discretion just in case its opened in front of a spouse, children, the DEA or Postal Inspectors. And if you send a Beretta O/U shotgun to me, don't get in a snit because you "only" received a 3 year old re-gifted fruit cake. It's the THOUGHT that counts...Better to give than receive. Yeah, yeah, yeah....

6. Try to mail them in time for Christmas. Once you receive your gift, try not to open it right away...save it for Xmas. Don't peak.

7. Let's start a thread after Xmas to share pics, comments, etc of what you received. And laugh. And OOOOOH and AHHHHHH. And bust each other's chops (i.e., "the Mikez 'der Douche Nozzle' rule."). I mean, c'mon, what else do we have to do in the week before New Year's.

8. Invariably there are gonna be a few glitches. Schit lost in the mail. Broken schit. Keep it in perspective. If somebody doesn't send a gift, feel free to ridicule and humiliate them on the board throughout the coming year. This is supposed to be fun and stress free...let's keep it in that perspective. Let's make it work (i.e., the "sammyg2 anti-cynic rule").

Try not to clog this thread up with a buncha comments...if you must, post in the original party thread. I will post amendments/clarications in this post by editing in contrasting colors and bump it to the top of PPOT.(Sorta like a PCA rulebook or SCCA supplemental Race Regulation.)

Oh yeah...Merry Ho Ho!

OK guys...I've sent each of you a PM. Drawn totally random with the exception I tried not to have two people getting each other's name. PM me if you DID not get a fwd'd PM. Some of you may have received multiple PM's but they should have the same name if you got two.

I think it's okay for you to be dogmatic... you thought this thing up and are running it... bark away.

Seriously, all your guidelines are well thought out and should be easily followed in the spirit of the season. Kudos.

Jim,

You need to add one more to the rule list.

Once the gift is received, the receiver MUST photograph the gift that they received, and post the picture on this or the other thread.

We want to see how our fellow Pelicans are treating each other!

This could be a lot of fun!

My Christmas starts the day I get my first gift then ends after I open my last...sorry, its a family tradition that I have been sworn to uphold.

I can't break tradition.

I could face banishment!

I can't face banishment!

Oh please accept the strange ways of my clan! We are a simple and happy few requiring little more than a scrap here and a morsel there...

Just make sure its still a bit moist and sticks to something, otherwise it rattles around inside the box and the Post Office might open it to see whats inside.

Better get the cat spooled up and "producing" so to speak. Or should I send a scorpion or two?
