I just graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UW Madison
 

I am so happy! I just graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UW Madison. It has been a long time dream of mine which I have been working hard to make come true. I have been in school part time for 9 years prior to going full time at UW Madison 3.5 years ago.

So far my educational lineup is;

4 year Apprenticeship in Plastic Injection Molding
Associates in Plastic Injection Molding
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering

While at UW Madison I focused on internal combustion engines and design. My major project I spearheaded was conversion of a IC engine to run on gas phase propane injection utilizing MicroSquirt engine management. In the end the engine ran well and had excellent throttle response. I was very pleased with the outcome.

I am in job search mode but have an appointment with one of my professors about a potential Graduate School position in the Engine Research department at UW Madison.

Keep an ear to the ground for me regarding a design position.

It sounds like you have a lot of marketable knowledge beyond the degree.

My goal when in school was to work in powertrain at one of the car companies. That didn't happen but I ended up in a good industry and a good career which has enabled me to play with cars and engines. This is probably a better outcome than if I had gone to Detroit.

Congrats! It's been almost two years since I graduated with an aerospace engineering degree. One of the hardest things I've ever done, but totally worth it. Just thinking back to those days sends chills down my spine......shouldn't I be working on homework right now?:p

Good for you! Congratulations! Hard work will pay off. Education may not be everything but it sure opens the door to learning. (don't take it wrong) Take advantage of it, and find a way to get lot's of practical experience. (Education and experience are hard to beat) You won't be sorry.

Professors' recommendations go a long way. One of my classmates got recommended for a Honda job by one of our ME teachers, ended up working on the design of the Acura LMP1 car. A year later, he's working for Tesla motors, who, by the way, allow you to borrow the Tesla Roadsters for the weekend, just, "uhhh, bring it back in time for a full charge."

He's doing really well and enjoying his work.

I'm building a bridge in China..eh..at least it pays better. ;)

the MOST DIFFICULT TIME CONSUMING thing i have EVER DONE was going back at my advanced age to get my degree. i had no life, all i did was study, write multiple 30-40 page pysch papers, that had to be perfect hence my crap punk u ation /grmmar/spilling here. i was surrounded by COPS getting their degrees and slugging it out right next to me with their goofy hours and i became fast friends with all of them. cuz we was in da same boat and somedays it was sinking.

rain snow sun dust had to be there. books were insane STOOPID EXPENSIVE even used. cost for a 3 credit course was $876 per course, with no mommy/daddy to help pay for it and it generally sucked the big juan all the way around.


there IS NOTHING BETTER THAN HAVING A DEGREE in any subject. it shows the world you slugged it out in the trenches big time and perservered despite overwhelming MISERY AGONY and DESPAIR!

if i had the time i would go back for my masters in a heartbeat.

Good job. Its not easy getting a BS in engineering (I have a BS in ME). I suggest going to school to get your masters and continue to look for work. There isn't much work out there, but if you keep money coming in in the mean time, then you should come out better. This is what I am doing at the moment.

Anything from molded carbon fiber seat frames for aircraft, to rocket nozzles and top secret military stuff.

I might be able to help, their main production facility is named after someone I know ;)


Another option is oil refining.
The industry is under fire from the enviro-wackos and dems, but the pay is really good and they are always looking for young engineers.

congrats, similar to me. I was working with a square combustion engine doing schlieren for flame front measurements. I've been in rockets almost 30 years.

if the grad position is offered, I suggest you take it to make your first step into industry be at a higher level.
