P-51D Model -- Wow!

The P-51D is one of the most beautiful machines and shapes ever conceived by man. It is no wonder to me that it was as dominating a combat aircraft as it was.

Anything that looks that good has got to work great.

If I had that kind of patience and skill, I'd build it full-size, and go fly it!

Of course, I don't have that kind of patience or skill.

snipe do you have a high res version of that pic?

Buckterrier 12-24-2009 12:52 PM

Wow is right! I've built 2 wooden ship models. Very time consuming. But nothing like that. Did I say wow?

scottmandue 12-24-2009 01:04 PM

I was bored and though "yawn... another model airplane thread"

Then I clicked on the link...

Holy key-rap that is some mind boggling craftsmanship!!!

He must have been a hell of a dentist.

The undercarriage retracts and the controls work, although the levers are so small they have to be operated with a pair of tweezers.

Holy hell! That is seriously impressive.

HardDrive 12-24-2009 03:13 PM

Pffffffttttt. The engine doesn't even run? Weak.

lm6y 12-24-2009 03:58 PM

I can't imagine the skill or patience that took.

I agree with sniper (again, need to stop that), the P-51 was dead SEXY! The scene where the pilot buzzes the tower at the POW camp in "Empire Of the Sun" gives me goosebumps.

"P-51 CADILLAC OF THE SKY!!!!"

Where's my DVD of that......

KarlCarrera 12-24-2009 05:11 PM

Absolutely frickin' amazing. The skill, pride, attention to detail and craftsmanship are fabulous.

My FIL did the RC model and built a P-51 with retractable gear, (must have a 3' wingspan) never flew except in his basement, and imagination. He was always afraid he would crash it. WW II pilot, and flew all of his RC's except the P-51. It still hangs from the basement rafters.

Thanks for sharing

Merry Christmas

He also did a Corsair to the same level.

Sorry bro, just that one. :(

I have some awesome hi-rez A-10 and F-22 pix though.

I guess he has a lot of free time. I prefer the F4U Corsair.
