Wife got me good this year for X-mas

Since I was a kid, I always tried to guess my x-mas presents just prior to opening them. It used to (and still does) p!ss my mother off royally. My wife is even more bothered by it as are my daughters. This year I was kicking butt while we were at home opening our family presents. Small box- Glock coffee mug... check, next box- Glock perfection t-shirt... check, large lightweight box- Glock 4 pistol bag... check, next box- Levis jeans.... check. So far 100%.

Time to open the big box which I was 100% sure would be a reloader. I played it up real good even sniffing the un-opened box as my daughters watched and had their video cameras rolling. I announced that it surely must be a reloader as I tore off the wrapping paper. Well it was a Dillon 650 box which kind of caught me off gaurd as I was expecting a Lee progressive or maybe a Dillon 550B. I said "dear you shouldn't have... The 650's are too expensive and more than I need". At this point her and my daughters were laughing to the point of tears running down their faces and they told me to go ahead and open it. I tore the box open only to find some cheap heavy candle holders which gave the box weight and a small piece of paper that said she had contacted and arranged a private shooting lesson with Bob Vogel for $600

Bob Vogel USPSA and IDPA Champion

While I still need a reloader, she did pretty good in researching Bob Vogel, an Ohio police officer who has won many recent IDPA major national matches. She got me good and all my extended family got a good chuckle over the holidays hearing how my wife pulled a fast one on me.

If the dude gets $600 an hour for private shooting lessons and is a champion shooter why the hell is he still a cop?

$600 is for a whole day which still seems too much for my blood, but my wife's boss did this last summer and in one summer went from sharpshooter to master winning the Ohio and Indiana state championships. He claims the guy is worth the money, but being a DIY type guy, I would have rather had the reloader.

I am guessing that he is not rolling in the dough due to his shooting. Even though he now has sponsors, I am sure he spends a good chunk of dough traveling around the country competing. Every one who has met him says he is a great guy and a very good instructor.

Ya'll be a buncha cheapskates.

I used to work as a ski instructor.

While the basics are fairly straight forward and apply in beginner/group situations what I taught in one on one private lessons was only applicable to the individual.

When you are instructing people that are already proficient you are working on correcting their unique bad habits and reinforcing what they are doing correctly.

Cool gift, your wife rocks.

I am definitely a cheapskate. Most hobbies I have excelled at have been self taught through researching techniques of others by reading books, watching video and asking questions. I have never had any type of schooling in building aircraft, tig welding, engine rebuilding, mogul skiing, kayaking, motocross, violin making, gunsmithing, auto painting, piano playing etc etc. I have found that the thing that motivates me the most when attempting to master a new hobby is being spoken down to by someone who already is proficient in the skill or hobby. It causes me to instantly go into an "I'll show you.. you condescending SOB" mode.

Yup. I wanna know if he holds his pistol sideways when he fires out the widow of a moving car, like they do in LA

You never know what gem an instructor might drop that you either A) forgot about, B) never emphasized enough, or C) never managed to learn to begin with.

So write it all down Tim!

When i was in the Army after a soldier returned from advanced training (Jungle, Arctic, sniper, whatever), the returning soldier was expected to pass the lessons of the school to his platoon mates, thus making the entire unit better.

Seeing as how Tim is a member of the Pelican Volunteer Regiment, it is his responsibility to teach the other militiamen what he learns.

Hehehehe

You're an ugly, obsessed, overgrown four-year-old but you have one fantastic family there.
