Firearm forums
Gun guys... what are a few good gun forums? I used to have a few really nice pistols, revolvers, and shotguns but sold them all to help fund my first home build years ago. As I wrote in Jeff's thread I've come into possession of a beautiful S&W Model 17. Serial number shows it to be 1958 vintage. I will also have my S&W 4006 back soon from my fathers widow. Looking forward to getting back into target shooting.
Thanks in advance. |
Ar15.com is really popular. But i really do not like gun forums, since each one is loaded with know it alls, and each one has it's own clique of well established know it alls, each of whom tries to get new posters banned/discredited if a new guy doesn't agree with them.
I just had this happen to me on the Kel Tec forums, where i was basically called a mall ninja and then banned because i disagreed with a few of the regular posters(who were quite wrong IMO). So....Pelican is my gun forum. There is a firearms section on my forums, if anyone is interested in checking it out. http://www.a-10.org/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=23 I mostly talk guns here though. |

Check out Northeastshooters.com.

HuntingNet.com seems to suffer less than other firearm forums of the afflictions Sniper describes.

There are not many topics where you humbly admit you don't know either, amigo. :)
|
Yeah, but the difference is that I actually do know it all. Except for gun stuff.
But, if I wanted to know something, I gotta admit I would ask you. :D:D:D |
lol, mall ninja... reminds me of a thread...

In the day it used to be called gunslinger attitude. But isn't it really true to all hobbies? |
I found some good older rifle on www.thehighroad.org back a few years ago.. Not sure how it is now.

Seriously though, we have some really sharp gun people right here already, and it's not nearly as cliquey or "tactical" as a lot of the dedicated forums are. |

You have a few interesting threads on the other forums ;) . So the gun laws in the fine state of Ct. You have to take a safety course, no biggie other than the $110.00. This is where it get's interesting. Once you pass you send paperwork into the local law folks, city police in my case. Once they feel like ok'ing, (for anther $75.00), you get a temporary permit which is useless as tits on a bull. You can't carry, buy, or transport a firearm with it. Now... once you get this useless piece of ****e you can take it to the stateys and for another $75.00 you will get your permit in whatever time frame they chose, (supposed to be 4 months). I have my class Jan. 7 we'll see. |
Seeing that you are getting your S&W 4006 back how about S&W Forum ? I love my 4006 it's built like a tank and shoots great. Minimal maint. needed and will probably last forever. I don't carry so not concerned about the weight. I'm not a plastic gun guy I guess I'm old school.

The Firing Line is decent, but does suffer a bit from the know-it-all syndrome, and like most gun boards is overrun with nitwits that think "tactical" is something you buy, and that a rifle is only useful if it had 12lbs of crap hung off it. I am not as familiar with the pistol forums there, but the rifle, C&R and handloading boards are pretty good. There are a few folks there who do know a lot, and are not dicks about it.
For old stuff, I like Surplusrifleforum and Gunboard's Forums For Californians, Calguns.net is top notch. Tom |
SIGforum is good. GlockTalk has super classifieds. We have a local one called ArizonaShooting, which has local events, open carry dinners and also a great classifieds section. I'm meeting a guy tonight for a dirt cheap ammo deal.

totally agreed here. questions like this: "how do i make my ar-15 shoot like a .338 lapua? how do i make my grand dads double barrel into a riot gun? can i use .357 mag rds in a .357 sig, will making my 10/22 full auto violate class III laws, if i machine the parts for my ar-15 to make it full auto and then take them out am i in violation of class III laws, do plastic coke bottles make good silencers(suppressors), should i put a 8-D-cell maglite on my ithaca pump 20ga?" and on and on and on and on and ON! some real scarey stuff and some real moronic people! my faves are hk pro/m-1 carbine/m-14, forums after that and i cant figure it out, i go straight to the horses mouth for info on .45's/9mm's/..308's/.338's/.22's/.44's/.380's,12ga etc. and that would be: hans vang-12 gauge the gunsmith nelson ford-.44's/9mm's/.38's/.45's/any lever gun robar-anything that goes bang mcmillian-.338/.308/M-14 arrington accuracy M-14/M-1 carbine my FFL guy. after doing this all my life and leaving NOTHING uncustomized............i really dont have too many questions EXCEPT...................... "WHERE IN THE HELL ARE THE DEER/ELK/ANTELOPEZZZZZZ?????????????" |

It took 7 days and about $40.00 for me to get my permit here in Pa. We should talk Wayne into adding a firearms section here. I have one on my board, but the volume there is quite low, as it's really a very specific niche site. |
Thank God, I live in AZ.
|
i DOUBLE your "thank god" i live in arizona.

You guys have no idea how much fun it is to get a handgun permit here in NYC.
They treat you like the criminal for wanting a firearm. If more New Yorkers were packing heat the bad guys would think twice, Let's not forget Bernie Goetz, he should have been given the key to the city! I'll keep you posted on how long the process takes. 1 month down, 6-12 months to go! |
LOL, i guess i didnt' get banned from that aforementioned forum afterall. I just posted there. LOL....
Still very cliquey though. ;) We're all pulling for you NY65912! |
I have scored so many scorching deals via our local gun bbs. Less than an hour ago, I met up with a guy from there in the local Costco parking lot and paid $150 for 500 rds. of 155gr. JHP .40 cal. ammo and a set of NIB RCBS .40 cal. dies. Love the Internet and love AZ.

I think it's a great idea for a firearm forum here. I mean if you can have a forum to rip each other why not a firearm forum? Thanks everyone for the links some great reading. |
I had a 6906/5903 hybrid for over a decade that i really liked. I actually regret selling it now that it's gone.
3rd Generation S&W autos are very solid designs, i've had 4 of them, but the factory trigger pulls suck. Tons of creep. A good smoothing over by a competent smith makes them capable of much greater precision. This was mine: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ardSideRT1.jpg |
I'm also on the S&W Forum...
If U have a NIB Registered Magnum, a NIB Mdl 16, a NIB 2nd Mdl 44 TGT and a boxed 2nd Mdl SS wt rare 8" B you got it made over there. Otherwise they are friendly and helpfull. |

If you have 3 NIB pistols you are doing it wrong. Open the damn box and go shooting.

I agree. Why keep them perfect so your kids can sell them for next to nothing after yer dead. Enjoy them for chrissake.

Gun forums I used to hang out at:
glocktalk firingline targettalk pistolsmith smithwessonforum thehighroad pistolsmith and targetalk were the least "tactical". At the time, I haven't visited any of these in a while. |

One could get a nice used mdl 27 for a few hundred and get the same bang...which I have done... I have shooters and I have safe queens... BTW 84 Carrera has signed up for the S&W Forum... |
Like sniper, PPOT is my new gun forum. I've been on too many dedicated gun forums to even remember them all. IMHO, not a single one of them is worth the effort anymore. Advice ranges from simply stupid to darn right dangerous, and far too much weight is given to the most tenured members, with post count equaling credibility.
Many of today's most respected gun writers rue the veritable cesspool of misinformation the firearms forums have become. Notables such as Ross Seyfreid, Dave Scovil, Mike Venturino, Brian Pearce, Sheriff Jim Wilson, John Barsness, and many others have mentioned time and time again in their writings just how bad it has gotten. I fully agree. But, then again, car tech forums have pretty much gone the same way, with many knowledgeable early contributors having long since bailed. They got tired of being drowned out by the bombastic b.s. |
I only joined "the high road" when I was looking for parts for a rare old .22... Alas all those guys were looking for the same thing....
|
I have found several gun/ammo forums that have really helped me in my hobby/sport. I took up reloading last year and have purchased several guns and I research each only pretty thoroughly.
|
Yes, thanks to this forum and the excellent information, I've got back into guns. AND into handguns - lots of fun. Particuarly thanks to Sniper, Rick and to Todd.
|
My pleasure to reignite the fire to fire in a fellow pelican. :D
