Not so cold after all
Had to take my daughter to her freinds house tonight.
Finally got a bit of snow ( about 4") and it's been a little breezy and turned sharply colder. I was kind of chilly when i got home so i threw a couple of logs in the wood stove then checked the outside temp. (1 below) not to bad really. So to warm myself up further i like to check the weather on Mt. Washington. Current temp minus 24.2 Wind speed 70.3 MPH gusts to 81.7 MPH wind chill minus 70.3 Makes me feel warm all over. |
Reminds me of the line in Planes, Trains, and Autos.
Steve Martin: "What do you think the temperature is?" John Candy: "1" I hate the cold. Brrrr... |
Reminds me about hiking on tuckerman's ravine...
|
Always wanted to ski tuckerman's but never made it.
Too old to hike it now, unless they drop me out of a chopper. |
Back in November '98 I spent a few torturous hours in the wind on the Lion's Head. Dudes...it was COLD.
|
I have traversed the presidential range in winter... some of the most brutal weather on earth. Cold I can deal with, but wind is really a killer. Washington still holds the world record for highest wind speed ever recorded, 231MPH.
In my former life as a mountaineering/alpine guide, I knew two guides (one was my boss) who had SERIOUS mountaineering resumes (multiple 8000M peaks, first ascents, etc) who said the worst conditions they had ever encountered were on Mt. Washington. |
Years ago the only TV station we could get was channel 8 out of Poland Springs, Me.
Their broadcast tower was atop Mt. W. and when they did the weather they included a report from a guy (Marty Engstrum) that was cooped up in the observetory. I miss Marty. |
