Help! Now! Need rifle for grizzly!

Jus woke up. Barely escaped him. Had a bolt action something which wasn't doing it and malfunctioned anyway. Scared to go back to sleep until better armed. What bolt action hunting rifle, in what caliber, for Alaskan Grizzly? This is somehow Jim Richards' fault I think.

How about an L.A.R. Grizzly .45 Winchester Magnum? :)

320 grain slug at 1150fps. Good for 940fpe at the muzzle.

Now sleep tight! :D

Joeaksa 12-31-2009 02:16 AM

For close in work, a .45-70 lever action or shotgun with slugs works well...

rouxroux 12-31-2009 02:51 AM

All you need is a bear bell..;)

If a bolt action malfunctioned, things are pretty bad. Maybe a double rifle in .416 Rigby?

ODDJOB UNO 12-31-2009 03:49 AM

12ga
45/70
.338 win mag
.338 lapua
.375 h und h
any weatherby magnum bigger = better
.416 rem/rigby
.454casull
ruger alaskan .480-my choice but what the hell do i know?
have fun with the smith .500 "i'll watch and take pics"

onewhippedpuppy 12-31-2009 03:53 AM

If it's Jim's fault, the answer is obviously "snow tires".

GH85Carrera 12-31-2009 05:05 AM

How about a vehicle to get outta there?

Too late. If you don't have the right weapon already, you're a goner.

OMG - I don't even know what the heck that rifle is, but it is beautiful, surely capable of great violence and I want it!!!!

The bear must read PPOT, because he didn't return. Whew.

targa911S 12-31-2009 05:58 AM

Big monet Angela. That one is at least $10K. They start at around $4K for a used low end and go up to as much as $100K. No scopes on these. They are used in short, brush scenes, Lion, rhino etc. Ya gotta have balls to stand there and shoot a Cape buffalo, or charging rhino at under 100yrds. 500 Nitro express will spin you in a circle when you shoot it.

When I worked in Alaska most people I worked with carried folding stock Remington 870s strapped to their back pack. Even in homes the gun of choice was a shotgun. Not to kill the bear but it would sure turn them. I carried a 44mag and was lucky I never needed it.

my best hunting friend is arranging a bow hunt for grizzly. he wants me there as support. i am actually nervous about it...i could DIE! he runs faster than i do. as incentive, he is offering me the caribou portion..for all i know the seasons are diff, and he just wants me there as the rodeo clown for the bear.

course i will be armed to the gills with a 12 gauge.

Aren't bears supposed to be hibernating this time of year?

red-beard 12-31-2009 06:40 AM

Since it was a dream, I suggest you arm yourself with Sharks, with friggen' laser beams on their heads. ;)
