gun show tomorrow and looking for a 22 pistol
Happy new year everyone. I'm going to the Orlando gun show tomorrow in search of a 22 pistol. I think I have narrowed my search down to Ruger, Sig , Browning or S&W. Pretty sure I want a semi-auto to compliment my S&W 4006 40 cal. I'm open to any suggestions on these or any others. I'm not desperate to buy tomorrow but if a deal can be found I might buy. My price range is $200.00 or less if possible. This will be used as a cheap range gun to stay sharp rather than my more $$$$ 40. Fire away guys

Ruger is about all you got with that price cap.... Jump up to $400 and you open yourself up to say a Walther P22 and maybe even some of the cheaper Brownings. The Rugers are great guns though.

Rick V I'm curious how you find the Ruger to be in regards to how difficult to breakdown for cleaning and reassembly. That seems to be the only complaint I see on the Ruger from many owners. Everything else seems to be positive. I did a Youtube search and watched two videos of the disassembly/assembly process and it didn't seem difficult to me ?

Browning Buckmark Camper and the Ruger Mark III 22/45's can both be had brand new for $300, so if you get lucky you might find one of them in you're price range.
I don't think you can go wrong with any derivitave of the Ruger Mark II or III or the Buckmarks. I have recently shot a bunch of both types and they are all decent .22 target guns. Both have their devoted followers like Ford/Chevy, but you don't read anything bad about either. The Buckmark requires an allen wrench to strip, the Ruger can be a bit finicky to re-assemble, but both are fine and do not need to be stripped very often..... I have been simply blasting my Ruger Mark II with a bit of gun scrubber whn it starts acting up and have been shooting several hundred rounds a night through it and stripping it only when it really gets crunchy after maybe 1000 rounds.

I picked up Ruger MKIII about 3 months ago for $279 at a gun show. Shoots great. For the $, hard to beat.
Seemed like at this show a good used MKII was selling for every penny of my new one. (and then some) Karl 88 Targa |

One thing to note on the Buckmarks is that the mill finshed slab sided barrel is more accurate... Not to say that the camper special is any slouch on paper....
As much as I love the P22 for plinking and I will have to own one. When the shots count this what I'm grabbing out of the safe... Just don't want to subject it to what I would a P22. ![]() |

WE ARE "NINJA'S"......................PFFFFFTTTTTT!
the accuracy is OVER THE TOP the weight savings is INSANE!. the value added bonus of adj sights, threaded barrel for compensator or suppressor, and the picatinny rail. YOUR A FOOL NOT TO OWN JUAN! 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000's of rounds downrange with barrel because we(son and i) are in a monthly .22 match and not (1) FTF nor (1) FTE, and you can SPLIT A FLYS EYELASHES with it with federal .22 match ammo! |

My advice is stay at home with a budget of $200....
I would also be looking at some High Standards...in the early 1960's 90% of target shooters were shooting HS's. What hurt their sales was that S&W came out with the mdl 41 which aproxiamated the grip of a Colt 1911...HS soon corrected that with their own version of the military grip. One can still find a nice HS mdl HD Military made right after WW2...in 4 or 6 3/4 B for around $300 to $400 Or a early to late 50's Supermatic for about $400... Once you have a HS you never go back... For Revolvers...there is the Colt Officers Mdl in 22...those would run $400 to $700, the action is slick.. Also the S&W mdl 17....$400 to $1400 depending on the variation... these have appreciated recently...an 83/8 anywhere from $500 to $900
