The Ducks are Back ...
Every January we get 3 ducks in our pond for a week or two - two mallards (male and female) and a wood duck (male). The Wood Duck seems to just like to hang out with them. Prolly a confirmed bachelor. Good to see them back.

you have a private pond? any bass in this pond?
|
There are so many Canada geese at the Lab that they have become a nuisance and people try and chase them off on a regular basis. Sometimes when people chase them off, they simply fly over and land on a large pond so they've started using radio-controlled boats to chase them off of the pond.

Vash is always looking for that next fish...

No Bass unfortunately, not for lack of trying but the Catfish (channel and blue) seems to eat the young.
Do have a few Buffalo Carp - big daddies. Plenty of Perch as well. At last count, roughly 18 Turtles (box) and one Snapper that comes and goes - haven't seen al Grumpy in several months, prolly killed. Huge Bull Frogs as well as peppers. They make a bunch of noise at night. No snakes - the Chaparral took care of them. King Fishers from time to time and a Blue Heron and a Crane will swing in for a snack. |
Snapping turtles don't live long in our pond. ;) We used to get a pair of ducks also, but for the last couple of years our Australian Shepard has decided it is "his" pond and will make life miserable for any fowl that happens to make a water landing.
