got another dog......I must be nuts

The wife and I have two dogs. They are both daschunds a male and female. The male ( Michelob ) we bought about 6 years ago as a pup. The female ( Sophie ) we got from a couple that was getting divorced. Purebred with papers for free. She's about 6 1/2 years old so she got along great together. Fast forward to yesterday when a friend at work told me his married daughter had two daschunds ( purebreds ) that they wanted to give away because they had a baby and a 3 year old and it was too much work with the dogs. As it turns out my youngest son was looking for a doxie for his girlfriend for Christmas but wasn't able to find one. Yep today we picked up the two dogs. My son took one and we got the other. His name is Dexter and he's 4 years old. He's a shorthair and chocolate brown in color................a real cutey. Sorry no pics but just got home an hour ago. So Michelob,Sophie and Dexter say hello to all Pelicans and their pets :D .

Will be interesting interactions between the two males. Who will end up alpha male?

Good question. Mick was first and he thinks it's his house. Dexter is physically bigger but kinda shy so time will tell. I'd like to think I'm the Alpha male but after 31 years of marriage I'm not sure anymore :D .

You'd be suprised...my stepdtrs Yorkie has been/is the current alpha male and has been wearing the stepson's new Rottwelier puppy out...except when I'm in the room and they behave. Females just go with the flow. Thankfully all the vivsiting "grandpets" have gone back to college save for our schnauzer and the yorkie. Gratuitous pet pics....I felt like Dr. Doolittle over the holidays with babysitting all the critters:

I was trying to make a poorly-executed neutering joke.

I'm glad you are happy with your dogs!

Wait, so . . . . how many pets in the house?

Hey, if you can handle it and you're havin' fun, why not?

We have 4 dogs currently. A german shep/lab mix (130lbs) and 3 chugs ( chihuahua/pug) We just put our 17 yr old lab down, cancer. We also have a cat. Its good to know we have crazy company out there.

We've got a miniature, long haired, double dapple. We got it from my SIL when she got divorced. She'd been showing dachshunds and couldn't handle being divorced with 11 dachshunds. Yes, she had 11, and was paying handsomely for the ones that she bought.

Here's Sherlock.

A little younger before his hair had grown out.

We have 3 daschunds now nothing else. I'm really kidding with this post because it was my idea to get the third. Dexter is settling in fine with minimal growling. Seems like he growls more to the female.
