Weird Weather in Houston

We're having an unusually cold winter this year. Yesterday a warm front came through. By 2pm yesterday, the temp was about 56-57°. The temp stayed within 2° of that until about 6 this morning. The high temp for yesterday and today both occurred at midnight last night (59°).

At around 6am the temp started dropping. It's down to about 42° now at my house (I live on the warm side of town).

Our temps over the next couple of days are supposed to be in the 20s and 30s with some of the Northern areas getting into the teens.

Not really a big deal compared to some of you, I know, but feels darn cold to us.

We've had a warm winter so far, maybe 4 or 5 nights below zero.
Daytime temps. in the 20's on average.
Right now 25*
They're talking colder this weekend low teens for a high, below zero at night.
Not much snow yet, although Burlington broke a record for most snow from a single storm
33 inches. Kind of wierd as we usually get way more snow here then they do.
We got 8" from that storm so ontop of what we had we only have about a foot on the ground.

Well, you can have your cold air back. I'd gladly go back to our normall winter weather which is highs in the 60s, 50s and occasionally 70s or 80s even.

The one benefit that I can think of to this weather is that fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes should be greatly reduced by our weather this winter. For many years, we never had a problem with ticks on our dogs, but for the last 2 or maybe 3 years, we've seen more and more.

It means that UT will beat Alabama! That is what it means!

minus 42 in SE Idaho from what I heard. "So cold," said the weather caster, "your skin burns."

We got a warm front today. It's up to 20º!

Yeah, that's exactly what it feels like here!!! ;)

Hahahahah

I've lived in a cold climate before, but that's freaking nuts!

Any idea why your attic temp oscillates like it does?

Because the gas furnace is in the attic. I wondered at first too until I realized that the flame is open visible to allow oxygen to get in. Makes sense once I figured it out. I'd never had a gas furnace growing up and hadn't ever messed with this one until a month or two ago.

I'd sent you a PM way back, but I know some folks don't look at their PMs.

Yep, it's working great! Thanks tons!

Its' just a west coast blocking pattern. Nothing out of the ordinary other than its staying power. Next week, it'll switch to a mid-country blocking pattern and just shift the colder air eastward, dryer air to the SW USA.

Houston always has had jacked up weather.

When I lived on Lake Conroe, you could leave the house in the morning with it 80*, the wind would start coming out of the north and it would in the 40's by the time you got home in the evening, had 100 year floods twice in the same decade(which makes me question if this is an aptly named catastrophe) one of which was 25" in 12 hours, humidity greater than 100%(again, WTF dude, more than 100%?), hail, tornadoes, seriously.

masraum 01-08-2010 03:45 PM

My average temperature for the day so far is 30°. Low this morning was 25.6, high today was 37°. It's back down to a tad under 30° and it's been windy all day.

Check your back-flow preventer on your sprinkler system. My parent's unit burst today. You need to wrap that valve up as well.

BRPORSCHE 01-08-2010 04:08 PM

Yup, my boss's sprikler head burt today also.
