I had people telling me I should clunk my truck, I laughed at them. My truck will be around after a lot of those new enviro-tard wagons have expired.

Apparently neither did Jyl or Speeder.

Anyone that thinks it's no big deal that hand made German cars are being destroyed has holes in their head IMO.

Did they have different lending standards for the c4c program? IOW, allowing people who would otherwise not qualify for a new-car loan to get one?

Sure, the new car dealers were playing those, "No credit, no problem!" commercials like crazy during C4C.

C4C was just a fake, government created short-term bubble that inadvertantly devastated the used car industry.

Not to mention the repair biz.

m21sniper 01-10-2010 02:52 PM

And the after-market auto parts industry.

Denis- Yes, in a way CFC played a part in credit. Part of the approval process is 'position of equity'. If someone with marginal credit wants to buy a car with zero-down, they may not get an approval. But take that same customer with some junk-pile $100 Explorer CFC trade-in and suddenly they have $4500 down, the formulas click, the underwriters approve, and they're rolling in a new car.

As Sniper mentioned, they're now having to make those payments....

Oh gosh, a freaking 18 year old car with blue book value of a few thousand bucks if it were in good shape - which you know it wasn't - was scrapped. Cry, cry, cry like a pre-teen girl. If you think its such a tragedy, go buy up all the trashed-out E500s and pet them like wet kittens. Maybe you'll get rich.

m21sniper 01-11-2010 01:31 PM

You don't know that it was in bad shape. A lot of the C4C cars were in excellent shape. Who cares what the blue book value is? My 928 doesn't have a high blue book value, but is a better, more exciting car than 90% of the crap being made today. It will still be around long after most of the C4C new cars that were sold are long gone too.

C4C was a total disaster on every level. The only thing it was successful at was providing yet another example about the evils of the law of unintended consequences.

C4C laid waste to or significantly weakened whole industries (used car sales, used parts sales, and repair shops), and took poor people out of cars that were paid off and they could afford, and put them into cars that will soon be taken.

All that, for what end? Seriously....what was the point? To help repo men?
