Don't drink and eBay!! (it's dangerous)

Oh man... I'll be in the dog house for sure...

Why the hell did I buy a microscope which by the way is probably broken?
Yeah, you get this email when you thought you were off the hook:
The item, on which you placed a bid has had a bid retraction or cancellation, and you are now the high bidder. Congratulations!

Then another 40+ years watch that I don't really need...

Oh man.. the headache tomorrow will be brutal..

Friends don't let friends drink and eBay...

Retract your bid(s). In the place where you have to give a reason, write "I was drunk".

Happened to me with a set of wheels for the pcar.

Ended up with a smokin deal that I had no business spending money on.

I don't trust retracted bids. Possible that the owner bid it up with a shill, then retracts it so the second in line gets stuck.

Also make sure the email really came from eBay. I once got a 'second chance offer' on a car I bid on, and it was not from the person selling the car!, it was from a scammer.

Exactly, one of the first few purchases I ever made. I think the bidding was at around $20-25. I was willing to pay $50. It seemed like no one was bidding on the item. Someone came and bid $30, then $40, then $300. When my max bid was hit, they retracted their last bid. I never put a max bid in any more until the very end when I'm sniping. And I snipe manually.

Even more dangerous is Drunk Craiglisting, which usually involves driving to pickup the merch at some point in the night...

After a few medicinal scotches the other night, i bid on an item. I entered my max bid of $100, but when i confirmed the bid it had jumped to $1000!
I thought..."Oh dear!, the scotch is working well!"
So i back tracked, & found that i had entered the correct amount. I still dont know why it jumped to 1K.
I now know how to retract bids.

Pretty much.... Dad and I were sitting at his computer with all the cars on ebay sorted by distance... This little bastard pops up... Whats that.... Hmm.... Thats cheap and cool... Dads had numerous Vdubs so he was muy interested.... We stewed on it for a few days and then looked at each other... Theres no way 3k will meet the reserve.... And whatta ya know......

Another lesson learned... Never sort all cars on ebay by distance... You find **** you don't need that is near you....

i've done a couple of these while drinking. the best was i bought a 944 camtower thinking that it was complete. it gets here and it is just the shell.... it was only $20 plus about $10 shipping, so it wasn't a whole car.

I have a porcelain liquor bottle shaped like a 911 SC Targa. Yeah, there might have been booze involved with that purchase.
