This explains my love for cars... thanks dad.

A while back, I told my mom that they have devices to scan slides into computers. She asked me to get one, so I sent her a scanner with the stuff to scan slides. I think it took about a year for her to scan them all in and organize them.

I think this explains my love for cars. It was inspired early on.

The earliest memories I have of cars include my dad having an MG Midget in '73 or so (in one of the photos). He also had a special Nova with a big block for a short period. I think that was about it for him and interesting cars until I was much older. Prior to that he'd had lots of interesting cars, from drag/muscle cars to sportscars. I remember him mentioning dreaming of owning a Maserati from time to time over the years. The car that he bought once I got a bit older was an '82 Corvette (Corvettes being another car he'd wanted since he was young). Before I was born, he'd make extra money buying cars, fixing them and then selling them. My first car when I was 16 (1986) was a 1965 Chevy Impala 2dr with a 350, 4spd.

Growing up, I had a huge collection of Matchbox and Hotwheels and plenty of other larger toy cars. I remember owning a remote control 935 and an RC Detomasa Pantera.

I was obviously a prodigy, helping at an early age.

You work with what you've got.

I don't remember these, but I had the coolest curtains ever, Grand Prix!

Sweet.

Is your dad still alive?

I hope that my kids have fond memories of helping me in the garage.

I love the pic of you wrenching on the wagon

First thing I noticed, though, is the remarkable clarity of these pics. They're much sharper than most pics you see from that era. Is that because they're scanned slides?

His parents must have had a good SLR 35mm camera...

Nope, he passed away a few years back. The older I get, the more I have in common with both my dad and his father. I wish they'd been around longer for me to share this time with them.

I believe so. My father almost always shot slides. I think he used to tell me that they weathered better with time than prints.

I know how you feel. I was brought home from the hospital in the 924S and I had a racecar bed. I also had the matching racecar wallpaper, a porsche poster hanging above the headboard, and checkered flags on one of the walls. It was a foregone conclusion.

Cool pictures. Sometimes I get caught up in details. Look at the first picture, the garage. The old Quaker State box, metal gas can, and a styrofoam cool that was actually used more than once!

Cool pics!! I have to go to my moms and dig some out but she has some of me lying under the tail end of a 356 with my dad in 69 when i was like 6 mos old. She said she couldnt keep me away from the garage when my dad was in there. I would just crawl up underneath what ever he was working on and lay on my back and just check everything out.

Here is one of my son . I was trying to find him and heard a noise in the garage where I had been working on my VW Jetta GLI:

We had an Austin-Healey 3000 as a family car when I was a kid. That was all she wrote for me - I was destined to be a sports car nut...

I told my son (10) the other day that he doesn't stand a chance. Everytime he hears an aircooled porsche or smells oil/aluminum cooling he'll think of me. He looked at me cross eyed.

My parents had a 3000 when they lived in Hawaii which is where I was conceived. I suspect that means that I started in the womb. I think before that he had a bugeyed sprite with raised compression.

My dad used to deal in used cars and always had some type of muscle car around... He had a brand new 280zx when he graduated HS..... The toy cars seemingly came to a screeching halt when I came around though... Of course about that time he quit his job and started his own business.... He bought the Porsche and then was letting it sit which is how I ended up with it... We are now working on a phase his life where he gives the customers the middle finger a few weekends a month and has some fun.... Another Porsche will be to our place soon I believe... He loves coming to PCA stuff with me....

Those pic's are cool, we take a lot with our son, he's 10 in a couple of weeks, another thing we started to do 3 years ago is take a vidio, me and the wife just sitting there and talking to the camera about what he did this past year, school, hockey, family and most importantly how much we appreciate him, he will get these when he gets older

I just realized that most of the pictures that exist of me and dad together are when we are out working... Need to start getting pictures of us at the autocross stuff...

Steve, sorry about your Dad's passing.

Mine passed 6 years ago.

He was a hot rodder before 6 kids came along. Apparently, the local constable knew his car very well.

He bought a new 55 Chevy in San Diego when he got out of the Army. The first thing he did was have dual exhausts installed with steel pack mufflers. It was a 6cylinder but he used to tell me the sound was incredible. No pics of us working on cars together but lots of him with the family.[img]
