Temps this week here are supposed to be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Woo Hoo, I love winter. ;)

Yeah, exactly.

Anyone that is singing the praises of Oklahoma needs to travel more.

Rot 911 01-18-2010 05:22 AM

Northeastern Oklahoma is beautiful. Especially around the Grand Lake area.

m21sniper 01-18-2010 05:23 AM

Yeah, 'beautiful' and freaking cold.

What is the title of this thread again? :)

Great comment!

Sydney, Eastern OK is a nice part of the state but as you go West its flatter than a pool table and cold as hell once the wind and snow start. You are fighting a losing race touting OK as a warm state but keep up the good try! :)

I really don't care.... Ya its hot as hell in the summer and COLD in the winter... Oh well....

That picture was taken in Northwest OK guys...

WAT? not even close - unless I guess if you keep your car parked at the boat ramp, at high tide maybe...

Take a road trip and do some research. I like Savannah and the Carolinas.

Just rode a bus from Bloomington, IN to Aspen and back. I can't really imagine living anywhere in between.

Maybe try the LA area (as in Lower Alabama;))

Problem with many southeastern areas with a sizeable city you have the problems related to poverty and crime and decaying infrastructure. But you can find nice enclaves of smaller outlying towns that are really nice. For example, Mobile is fraught with problems in many areas but a short drive away is the neighboring town of Fairhope, AL which is a beautiful small coastal town of about 25,000. As expected a bit pricy. I would never live in the city of Jackson, MS but do enjoy living in a smaller, safer, more upscale neighboring town without all the problems of the city.

Somebody mentioned Pensacola which is a great town...and there are a number of smaller communities in that area that are really nice...Orange Beach, Perdido key, etc. Prperty prices there have plumetted in recent years so you can find bargains. Or even on over to Tallahassee and that area.

Shreveport? I really don't think its what you're looking for...although being an RT might come in handy when you're suffocating from the summer humidity. Savannah? Beautiful but pricey pricey pricey.

You mentioned warmer clime and proximity to a city of 150K or more...what are your interests? Hunting? Fishing? Boating? Hiking? Beaches? Camping? And IIRC both you and wife are in the medical fields...need to be near hospitals/med schools? A bit more info would help with some suggestions beyond temperate climate.

That was TODAY in OK... Doesnt look flat to me.. And the weather was pretty much perfect for a drive in the Porsche and Hike....

We have those in Fla too, they're called landfills.

you pretty much got all of that spot on. not so much hunting or boating, but all the rest including hospital proximity, etc.

i was looking at real estate in savannah and jobs. the houses there are quite reasonable and the cost of living is less than utah (the cost of living and the crime rate are actually quite high here; the crime index is 420 in savannah, 650 in salt lake city, national average is 320. go figure. also, there are quite a few openings in savannah for both RT's and LCSW's, more so than here in SLC, and i have only done a VERY cursory search.

the main holdback on moving in general is that our kid is just under a year old and the in-laws have REALLY come through on helping us out. maybe we should take my mother-in-law with us.....
