Now _this_ is a Haynes manual...

We often make fun of the Haynes manual for our 911s, but I opened my new issue of the British magazine "Aeroplane Monthly" this morning to find an extensive review of the newest Haynes manual, "Messerschmitt Bf-109 1935 Onwards (All Marks)". It is indeed another in the Owner's Workshop Manual series that we've all long been familiar with..."Everything you need to know [to maintain] all variants of the Bf 109, including the Avia-built versions and the Spanish Casa Buchons."

As the title of the review says, "Now where's my metric socket set?"

Are you serious?

How many functioning Messerschmitts could there be?

Well, there are a small number of flying -109s, and I'm in frequent contact with two German brothers near Munich who are manufacturing brand-new ones. They have so far sold seven, one of them to me. (Kidding, just kidding...) Go to Metallflugzeugbau Metallbau Flugzeugteile spare parts Me Bf 109 - Hartmair Leichtbau Freising and take a look. It's in German, but there are a lot of photos.

Obviously the manual is for enthusiasts, not to sell seven copies. It's as though Haynes did a 917 "Owner's workshop Manual." A lot of us who have never owned anything bigger than an SC would doubtless buy it.

Doesn't this thread belong in the Messerschmitt forum?

Absolutely, and I'm terribly sorry to have bothered you with something so boring. Next time I'll remember to post, "Show me your wings" or "Anybody heard of Motormeister?"

I want one. You never know when a 109 will show up on Ebay cheap and I want to be prepared for ownership.

I find these threads interesting. So why not post in the 911 forum? More people see it that way...

Steve, And yes if Haynes made a manual for the 917 I would buy one.

Also... I can not believe someone is actually making new 109s!

Some 911 content just because...

A quick look on amazon offered up even more Haynes esoteria - and all of it really cheap!

I think we should band together and get them to get that 917 manual published.

Thanks for sharing, Steve.

They are well known in the antique airplane circles and make an excellent product.

Also there was a group of people who were making new FW-190 as well as ME-262 aircraft at one time. You have enough money, someone will make you one.

The FW-190 people are Flug Werk, also near Munich. Several of their aircraft are already flying--one on the cover of the current issue of "Aviation History," with my article on Focke-Wulf designer Kurt Tank, who was in many ways the Ferdinand Porsche of airplanes.

Wow, those are pretty cool. It might be fun/interesting to buy one or two. They'd make interesting conversation pieces. I wonder about the level of detail and info in the one for the Apollo 11.

Just wait until some guy has posted that he's got one that's gone 750mph at 15000 rpm.

A Messerschmidt Haynes manual?

THAT's FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!!

For no good reason at all, I want that manual.... I'll never have a Messerschmidt but to be able to go through the manual, understand how it's put together - count me in! Sometimes it's fun to learn about something for no other reason that to learn about it. Fascinating!!!!
