Yes! Another bad-assed diesel...

Check it! VW jut put out a replica of their Jetta Cup turbo-diesel race cars. Everything is there with the street version except the higher hp engine in the race car.

BTW, here's the Jetta TDI race car:

Hmmm...the article seems to read "inspired by"...I'm skeptical... for example, it is my understanding that the racers use R8 brake calipers...I'd be pleasantly surprised to learn that those calipers made it onto the new car.

I love my TDI.

The car is very spirited, handles wonderfully. I am tempted to add a higher performance suspension to lower the rear. I have a highway commute drive and average 75 mph and get 34 mpg. Have the auto transmission which is very responsive.

Great car!

I've seen PA in Malibu in a park. She's really short, and the headlights very large. Bizarre looking if you asked me. She looks like she was designed by Bangle...

She was cute when she was first found in Canada. After all the surgery she is not anyone I would like to spend some time with...

I like it at $25K! Includes 6-spd DSG with paddle shifters. Easy enough to match the 170HP/300Torque rating of the Cup engine by chipping/flashing. I see a new daily driver in my future ....

Do you reckon that was how they achieved such horsepower? Chipping and flashing and nothing more?

If not a swap of the turbo combined with the chip would do it... I like the sound of this... May have to get me one at some point....

I'm not completely up to speed on modifying the 09/10 TDI's but from what I understand the 'chips' commonly available just happen to coincide with the HP/Torque of the Cup engine. Coincidence? In any case, can you imagine 300 lb-ft underfoot in a Jetta Pushing the front wheel drive layout to the limit.

The engines for the TDI cup race cars is prepared by a company - I can't remember who.

I have heard that one of the rules for the race season is the cars are allowed only a tank-and-a-half of diesel. They have to subsist on that through all the races. Sort of says something about the power-to-mpg of diesels.

Yeah. That'd be cool -- daunting, but cool.
