Anyone know Puerto Penasco?

A buddy of mine has suggested we meet up there in a couple of weeks time. I know nothing about the place, and it looks like a bit of a shyte hole from what I can find on the internet.

Anyone been there?

Yep, also known as "Rocky Point" and is a popular vacation spot for AZ residents. And yes, it is a shyte hole. It has been steadily turning into a (more palatable) resort/destination town, but has a looong way to go IMO. All of Sonora is a bit sketchy though. Lots of drug/arms traffic. You are better off heading to Cancun/Cabo/Loreto (all reachable via commercial aircraft).

Thanks. That sort of confirms my impression!

Been going there for years, like 25 years. Its getting better but agree with Eric. If you are flying down from the GYN stay on the jet for another 30 minutes and go to Guymas, Cabo and so on.

Loreto is a great little town, the airport is five miles away, neat hotel in town called Posada de las Flores. http://posadadelasflores.com/ The town is on the beach and you don't need a car.

dead nuts on that. san flippy(60 miles across gulf) is wayyyy nicer. bean going to rocky point since i was a knee high. WHY?

because back in dem dar old daze..................ANYJUAN that breathed was legal to take across the border (1) -JUAN GALLON OF CHEAP ASS MEXICAN BOOZE(oso negro) and bring it home to the u.s. so the parents brought all the kids and we tried to blow up all the crabs and fish and our fingers with M-80's on the beach, while the parents partied their ass's off!
