refurb apple Ipod
I am normally dead set against refurb as I typically dont want to inherit other people problems but I am considering a refurb Ipod from Apple on the recommendation of a co worker.
Does anyone have experience with Apples Refurb stuff? I am considering upgrading my 30GB to a 120GB classic |
I've purchased a few factory refurbed items over the years. Assuming the device comes with a factory warranty (which most seem to), I'm ok with refurb.

They were so hard to get 1st time out I settled for one.
I cracked the glass so for the last year or so the kids have been using it as an iPod/gaming device. Still going strong. |
I've bought iMacs, iBooks, iPods and iPhone refurb, actually I try to buy refurb as it is cheaper. The products come w/ full warranty, full and apparently new packaging, exact same software load, I've never been able to notice any difference from brand new - maybe some tiny use marks but less than I proceed to create in 2 days. That is assuming you buy refurb from the Apple site. Buying refurb from someone else, I dunno.

Apple refurb has been OK by me, bought most of my 'pods that way including the ipod touch. Also got the AirPorts - Extreme and Express as refurbs. All is well.

Refurbs are fine. Quality wise - probably better than the originals as I have read the QC process for the refurbs is more stringent, since they don't want them coming back a second time.
If you ever have a warranty claim, your replacement will most likely be a refurb. Go for it. Come to think of it, my first ipod was a POS so they replaced it with a brown box model - refurb. It plays all night, every night in my daughters room. Going strong 12 hours a day for over 3 years now. |
Is it THAT much cheaper to buy a refurb unit rather then a brand new one? I mean we are talking about an Ipod here not a macbook, so what are you saving, 20 bucks? is that savings worth the potential of the unit having to be returned if defective down the line? If the benefits outweigh the caveats go for it. Me, I'd just buy a new one.

Prices are Canadian.
new for a 160GB is $279 refurb for 120GB is $199 $80 cheaper is fine by me and so is the lesser storage space. It seems that the refurbished Apple products are pretty good which is what I wanted to find out. It took me 3 years to fill up my 30GB and it is only really used for music. For video I will typically use my Iphone, Nokia N810 or netbook so Im not too worried about massive storage for that. |
