holy crap..my wife is learning how to cook!

she got laid off, and went back to school for a total career renovation. i love to cook, and do it fairly decently. but lately she has all the time in the world

for the past week the little lady has put away the mad scientist lab-coat (dont make me tell you about her cumin flavored noodle stir fry) , and has cranked out some decent meals. i am blown away. one of the old lady neighbors has bronchitis and a fever, so all of our meals have been soups. we take the neighbor a huge container everyday..

tonight she is gonna try to make my tomato soup..with gruyere-sourdough grill cheese sandwiches..

this is cool.

Congrats. I'm not sure if this thread reminds me more of "Better Off Dead" or "Bridget Jones' Diary".

Remember your metabolism goes downhill as you age. Do not eat everything she puts in front of you!

About two years into dating I came home to the wonderful aroma of homemade italian cooking. I walked into the kitchen to find my italian wife preparing spaghetti, lasagna, manicotti, italian sausage, etc. Everything was authentic and delicious. As an added benefit, she was doing this while wearing a red "teddy."

Prior to this time I had never seen her prepare anything remotely resembling this feast. I asked her "What are you doing...I didn't think you could cook?"

Her reply: "I didn't say I couldn't cook...I said I DON'T cook."

I have since convinced her to prepare her from scratch italian on a regular basis. We refer to it as "Little red teddy spaghetti" now.

Yes I have pics. No, I won't be posting them

My wife just started making this dish during the past year. I wonder how I got by all these years without it!

LOL...funny you should mention that, Joe. As I was typing/reminiscing, I remembered how much fun she was during those times. And wondering where we got off in the ditch. Certainly the last few years with the travails of dealing with teens, especially the twins, coupled with what she is going thru at this physiological life stage has created some strain. Add some of my personal/professional frustrations to the mix and a lot can be explained.

I carry on in the hopes we can find the passion we once had for each other, life, adventures, etc. Certainly attainable since some of the areas of friction are gone from the house

That being said, I still remember the heat of the oven and the small beads of sweat slowly rolling down her chest into the recesses of the red teddy as she bent to pull the lasagna out of the oven.

jim, if you ever find yourself in el paso, texas...drop by this restaurant called frankie's...DAMN!

the ranchero sauce is a well guarded secret. i have eaten that stuff plenty of times, and i believe i got it fairly close.
i get this and the picadillo burrito recipe from LA COLONIA tortilla factory, and i am opening a food cart.
