Thanks for the link tho, but I prefer automatics to manuals. Just easier all around for me... |
Why not keep your cherokee and get yourself a 911?
Best of both worlds... |

FWIW, in '08 I was very interested in a GTI, then discovered and bought this;
227hp, turbo 3.0, 5 cyl, 6spd. You might want to test drive one: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291612584.jpg Oops - Jan. was a long time ago. Did you get your GTI? |
I bought my 2008 GTI DSG new in 2007 and now have 80K on it. I drive the car a lot for work and overall have been very happy with it. I got it with every option except NAV. Here is what I did to the car over the ownership of it.
Every 8-9K miles oil changed by dealer with required synthetic. I go 8-9K because 80% of my driving is highway cruising. Dealer agrees with me this is acceptable. At 25K miles I had it chipped with APR stage 1 software. Best $500 money can buy. Holy crap does it fly and burn rubber. Up to the legal speed limits it will stay with just about anything short of a supercar. I think I am going to go stage II in the near future. At 30K added the OE VW bluetooth hands free kit for $300. Now standard on new GTIs. Must have for those who need to use the phone in the car. At the same time added the factory Nav head unit for $1200. The new one is better, but a PITA to add. At 40K did the required maintenance, plugs, filters and fluid flushes. Cost ~$300. At 70K slight miss corrected with a new set of plugs. I suspect with the APR flash the plugs run a bit hotter and need to be replaced every 25K miles. Confirmed with others who have a flash on the ECU. Cost was less then $25. At 75K the DSG was recalled to have the mechtronic replaced. This is the assembly on the tranny that actually does the shifting. Low speed downshifts were getting a bit clunking and this solved it. Also got me a free tranny fluid flush :-) When I get to 110K I plan to do timing belt, water pump, flush all fluids, filters and do brakes on all 4 corners. Will probably cost around $1500 with me doing the brakes myself. Gas mileage has been awesome, consistent 25mpg in city and between 29-33mpg on the highway. Eaten through 2 sets of summer tires (See APR flash above), 1 set of snows still in tact. If I did it all over again I would buy the same car. I put between 25-30K miles on a car every year and get sick of them quickly. So far I am not tired of this one yet. I think at 100K I will add stage II to keep my interest and I am shooting to get 200K miles out of it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291654710.jpg |
We've got a '08 Gti DSG and love it. No issues and loads of fun.
The Fahrenheit Orange is way cool. Good Luck. Our car comes off lease in April, and it's another GTi! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...0620080702.jpg |
Have an 07 6 speed since new, now with 88kms or about 55000 miles. Great car, lots of power with a software flash. Changed one lightbulb and the plugs to date and regular maintenance. Great car that is now for sale as we need to get rid of something....
